Problems with FX-8120+GTX 670 - Page 5

as much as I hate bulldozer it should do just as well in BF3 because it's very well threaded. Id say there's something not right with your system right now.
Well if it helps to compare i can play BF3 @ Ultra @1920x1080 60+ fps on my FX8120 ( at stock with turbo off ) and a GTX580.

I have had no issues playing BF3 , Crysis 2, or any game at max or near to max settings. Is it cpu limited ? I doubt it , but that is my experience of it.
Id say there is something else going wrong here, if i can produce 60 fps or near to it with my rig then you should be getting better ?

As a side note , i tested BF3 with my cpu overclocked and at stock and bf3 prefered stock ( higher fps ) than overclocked cpu.

Is your FRAPS running on the same drive your BF3 game is installed ?? Have you tried BF3s own inbuilt fps counter ?

What makes you think there is something wrong with his overclock, just the FPS? They seem in line with this.

Your issue is heat, I have an 8120 and a 1090t, and while everyone says how bad bulldozer is, I am seeing a 15% improvement over my 1090t both overclocked.

If you get your voltage to high on your overclock you will get massive heat problems, play around with it AMD rate the chip to 61 degrees from there in prime95 the cores start to fail, I am running mine at 1.32v at 4.4ghz and whilst I have never run a benchmark on bf3 I do have traps open and I have never noticed it drop under 80 fps but that is with an overclocked 7970.

Get your heat under 60 degrees and then if the issue is still there its likely to be your graphics card

Hmm, that benchmark looks a little dodgy, I mean c'mon, 38fps on a 2500K?

Yea, that totally can't be right. I have a friend who is running a 2500k and a gtx 680, mind you only a 5% or so difference between that and the 670 and he can set vsync and get constant 60 fps, except in really intense situations, it might drop to 40 for a second? I'm running a 3570k and a gtx 670 and get pretty much the same experience. This does sound like a heat issue though, i was running a fx 4100 not long ago that i was asking around on the forums about and come to find out after i reset all the settings to default in bios everything ran alot smoother. Mind you i had made a few tweaks to BF 3, and turning off threaded optimization in nvidia control panel if i recall was one of the things that took away the stuttering. Also there was a in game tweak to change prerendered frames, setting it to 1 makes a world of difference. At least it did on the fx 4100, resetting to default and making those two tweaks it was actually pretty smooth except on 64 player maps i would get slight stutters here and there. Also make sure that you have core parking disabled. I'm told that can cause issues.

38 fps on stock 2500K may not be right, but the important thing to take from that graph is that FPS in multi-player BF3 can be very cpu-dependent.

However I very much doubt that the issue here is the power of the CPU, if it's OC'd to 4.43 that should keep up pretty nicely with a 3570 ... although if it's well OC'd the 3570 could probably be expected to be, I dunno, 25-30% faster thinking.gif

Don't forget you're comparing two machines, presumably in two different places, with different internet connections, AND you're using a multi-player game ... Plus you may not have 100% the same in-game IQ settings. Plus, since there's no actual benchmarking involved here, 50% fps difference is just an estimate, right?

Basically there's way too many variables involved here to nail down why the performance is different with yours vs your buddy's machine. But it's logical to think the CPU is likely involved in this particular case, since benches show that BF3 multi-player is very sensitive to CPU power.

BTW, I moved this thread to graphics cards because this is NOT a Build Log (which is the section this thread was in before). And I renamed it, in case you're wondering why it's different. The old title was too provocative in terms of starting flame-wars wink.gif

I'm interested in seeing if that improves performance. 60C is pretty low, especially since the chips thermal protection kicks in at 90C.
