Hot PSU - Page 2

Since I have 3 hot cards literally sandwiched, and my 8800GTS is almost touching the PSU (You can only put paper or something between them, nothing more XD That's how close it is), the 8800GTS might be "stealing" the PSUs air, because the 8800GTS' fan is ahead of the PSUs, and the air it intakes might be actually the air that's supposed to be reaching the PSU, for it's fan to intake.
Basically, maybe not enough air is reaching the PSU because the 8800GTS "eats" most of it before it arrives and that's why the PSU is hotter than usual. (In addition to the stress I'm putting it through ofcourse.)

I would start by seeing if there is any dust in or threw the unit, if so blow it out!

then remove the 8800gts, that will cut down on your power usage, psu longevity, and heat.

It is normal. My own TX750v2 gets pretty warm when BOINCing on my 470's. It also gets hot while gaming, but not by much.

Just be sure it is clean of dust (i use compressed air once a week) and it will be okay.

You can also try removing that third 8800gts, just to see how it goes.

That's an old CWT design, it's 80+ certified, but as it happens with all PSU lines, some samples will behave worst than others, some will not return the advertised efficiency..... still, at 230v that unit should still return 80% efficiency at the loads you're using it... which might mean around ~150W lost as heat in the AC to DC conversion... and that's a lot, especially since you're not feeding it cold air (the stacked cards issue).... if your ambient temp is high as well then the Hot PSU phenomenon it's easily explainable.

I'd put the PSU outside the case, to let it breath properly, or just move the whole contraption outside the case, on a bench table (to let everything breath).

From what I have seen with various OCN builds, remote mounting of the power supply is not at all popular.I really liked the idea of getting 150W of heat out of my case.I have 5 builds that use remote mounting of the power supply, some did require cable extensions.

This is so true, I have a pair of CX430's one sounds like a champ and ran my sig rig better than my TX650v2 (it was much quieter at load and didn't need to be cleaned as offen.) and the other one buzzes under full load and while it's off (5vSB).
