It'll probably be a little better, but it's not a true X-Fi sound card.  The audio processing chip is basically just a Sound Blaster Audigy:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_Blaster_X-Fi#X-Fi_line-up

I upgraded from a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS to the XtremeGamer (the one that looks like a low-profile card), and the difference was very noticeable.

So, it's my personal opinion that the Xtreme Audio isn't worth the money, except I do believe that it would be better than the onboard audio of the P5Q-E.  Except, I don't know how much better it would be.  I mean, it could be just a little better, or it could be a lot better;  I don't know.

I would recommend trying to invest in either the XtremeGamer (the card that looks like a low-profile card), or perhaps a Xonar DX or D1.

XtremeAudio, not very popular with dedicated Creative users.
A used or refurb Titanium (non-HD) would be a good choice
Or Asus Xonar DX or D1 sound card (used $50)

For the low cost entry, I'd suggest the Asus Xonar DG/DGX as far preferable to the budget X-fi cards, which are budget audigy cards with X-fi software wedged on top. The budget X-fi is barely distinguishable from a good on-board chip. The only difference between the PCI and PCIe versions is the socket they plug into, pick whichever plugs into a spare slot on your board. Just be aware that most boards are ditching PCI these days, and that will only continue.

If you have a 7.1 sound system, only a 7.1 card will take full advantage of it.

Here's a 7.1 installation :

Otherwise the DG can drive up to 5.1.

Creative ATP3 speakers?
I think you mean Altec Lansing ATP3 (2.1 speaker)
As you only have a 2.1 speaker system, 7.1 sound card would not be any better then 5.1 anyway.

If you use headphones, get a DG/DGX as that headphone amp is useful. The D1 is a bit better a card, but doesn't have the amp I believe. Either would be an improvement.
