Help me with my 3930K Temps

Thread Starter
I don't feel like I am getting great temps and I thought I'd just reach out to my trusted community here.

Ambient Temp is 23C
Idle Temp is ~38C
Load Temp is 62-65C using Prime95

I just put this new rig together with the following parts

MSI X-Power II
i7 3930k

XSPC Raystorm CPU Block
XSPC X-Power II Chipset/VRM Block
XSPC D5 Dual Bay Reservoir/Pump Mount
Swiftech MCP655
Thermochill PA120.2 Radiator
2x Thermaltake Thunderwing (TT-1225T)
Tygon 7/16" Tubing
Ice Dragon Liquid
Shin-Etsu G751 TIM applied down center of chip about a penny's length long.

The order that I have the loop in is as follows

Pump/Res Out to Rad>Chipset>CPU>VRM>In to Pump/Res

The system is running at stock for testing with fans @ 75% & Pump @ 100. I really feel like these temps are a bit high! When I overclocked to 4.5 @ 1.35v temps were a little bit higher under load, maybe 65-70c. Stock [Auto] CPU Core voltage pegs to 1.29v under load.

Can someone give me advice or share their findings with their rig? Who here uses a 2x120mm Radiator on the 3930k?

Also, when I filled the loop, it was a little tricky getting the pump to push it all the way through until it was a bit more than 3/4 full and then it really started flowing. It just seemed like it wasn't moving fast at first. Is that normal? The Pump is in the middle of everything, the Rad is on the floor of the tower and the cpu and mobo blocks are higher than both of them.

Thanks for any help or advice or even if you can share your temps I'd appreciate it!

If you wanna compare, i have an cm evo 212+ heatsink on my 3930k. I get about 40c idle, at about the same ambient temp. My clocks are all stock, so nothing special.

It feels low considering i'm air cooled and you're water.

If I run P95 at 4.6 (including HT cores) I get about 66C max with a 3x120 UT60. I don't think your temps are that crazy, this is a very hot chip.

Thank you for the reply. It's good to know you're within range of me.

I'm still convinced it should be quite a bit cooler... Like High 50's under full load.

When I was running mine at 4.8/ 5 I was hitting the mid-upper sixties, this is with two 480mm radiators

Man oh manz. So I'm not doing too bad then. Good to know, good to know. I'm wondering how we could bring the temps down! Adding another rad doesn't seem like the solution, my MCP655 is maxed... hmmm :/

I'm getting about the same temps man- maybe yours are a few degrees high but nothing crazy. Try re-applying the TIM with some MX-2, IC-7, or even Ceramique... This is pretty much the only thing I can think of. thumb.gif
