Yes. Whether it supports the server side language of your choice is another question entirely.

I'm guessing you don't actually own a tablet already otherwise you'd have looked in the app store already?

As mentioned, you can install a web server off your android device, however it often (if not always) requires the device to be rooted.

Would it not be better to host the site on an actual machine and just pull it up? Be it through remote desktop or a web facing page? Then you could do away with all the potential mobile formatting issues and the like.

You shouldn't need the device to be routed, though you may have to run the site off a non-standard port.

In Linux, regular users can open up listening ports as long as the port numbers are 1024 or above. Anything below that are system ports and would require root access.

Indeed, really depends on his end goals. Most of the App store servers restrict to localhost:8080: but if he is only looking to host a single site at a time that would work.

Still, I feel like unless he is bringing both his android device and a laptop: accessing the site directly from the tablet it's hosted on may have less than desirable results (unless you're showcasing a mobile site?).

If you're talking about iOS (re "app store), then that would be because of the same reason - what with iOS being UNIX-based.

Why would it have less desirable results? Unless the OP is planning to test the sites in Internet Explorer, all the browsers are available for Android as for the desktop - well, all be important ones anyway.

The only reason Android defaults to mobile sites is because user agent strings tell sites that it's a mobile platform and thus server up a compact site. But even then, they usually have a footer link to enable a full desktop version of the site.

Sorry, Play Store: just seems clunky to say, sorry for the confusion.

I just mean, as a professional it seems cluttered to be offering a webpage to a user on a tablet: at least to me. To avoid from going well off topic, yes it's possible but make sure it's something you wish to commit to.

Cordially,
TacticalTuna.

I need the tablet to host at least 5 websites locally on its own.
The tablet will be used by a sales agent who meets up with clients to show samples of our designs.

The reason I want it localhost is because the wifi spots here are crap.
most of them have very slow connections, averaging at 20kbs or less. (this makes our webhost look bad)

Using a usb broadband connection is also bad. We tried two ISPs of usb broadband and both were very slow,
like 5kbs dial-up speed of the 90s when they advertised 12mbps at a full signal.

Do you guys know of a server that will work on android 4.0 ?

-edit
are these any good?

You've still not addressed the question of which server side languages you have on your site. Whether you need database support or so on.

Quite honestly, I think this approach will create more problems than it solves. So if it's just to show of page designs, then can you not export the pages statically? Or print to PDF? Or if you need to show off dynamic content then get a 3G dongle / compatible netbook.

Again, my opinion is much the same as above. Another alternative again would be to pick up a cheap laptop, setup an adhoc network and just connect the tablet to the laptop which you could leave in the car etc.

Overall, you just don't get enough control on an android device to host multiple sites or have a guarantee of compatibility.
