AMD New Build - Need Help -

Hello everyone,

I´m moving away from my house to a part time job as a cad designer of metallic structures at the years end, at the same time as I finish my degree in mechanical engineer... and in the process leaving my current desktop in my house, for family use and for vacation.

I´ve always liked overclocking and building pc´s, and I´ve read a lot about the bulldozer being slower for gaming etc, however not much is writen about rendering and 3D/2D heavy complex modelling, since the fx 8120 ou 8150 are 8 cores I´ll assume it´s better for rendering etc..

I won´t do much gaming on this desktop, maybe if I have time and am bored, but maily rendering and cad etc...

I´ve considered building something identical to my current sig rig, but I don´t really want to do 2 similar pc´s and I was hoping to get more power for rendering out of Amd processors.

I´ve read Piledriver is to be released around setember, and I´m particularly looking foward for fx 63.. or 83...

As for graphics cards I never really liked work cards so I´ll get either two cheap sli´s or one 670, but I would like to use sli, since I never did anything with sli.

I will be buying everything from the ground up, and my budget is 1300€ or 1400€, but not more than that.

Can anyone help me choose the parts (assuming the fx series piledriver will be around the same price as the bulldozer at launch)

Many thanks everyone!

:doh.gif: really a 6-core Thuban or 3930K would be better for what you're doing..

I´ll look into the i7´s but they seem a lot more expensive, and bulldozer prices are soo cheap these days, the fx8150 is even cheaper (at a store near me) than the 3570k.

Ok but I´ll consider taking my rig with me, and not building anything, but I would like anyway to have 2 computers as I will travel quite a distance and moving the computer every weekend will be ... bothering biggrin.gif

Your opinion is that I whould use my rig as a work station? (also my sig rig still says I have a 670, but I gave it to my younger brother, I´m using the built in gpu on the ivy at the moment)

Thanks for the reply ! smile.gif

Thanks everyone,

Well I tried to check the xeon but I don't think I can get a xeon sistem in my budget, what do you think?

As for the previous question, I made the choice, and I'm going amd, intel only if I can get a good xeon, but I think amd will do fine.

So if you guys have time, could you help me select the component, even though newegg doesn't ship to europe, I ask if you guys could post here what would you do considering my desktop needs, like a build.

And as before , many thanks everyone thumb.gif

Okay going to post here since there´s no need to start a new thread.

Sold my ivy for a good value to my brother and he gave me his HTP, now on my sig rig biggrin.gif

I´m plannig to build this can anyone help me?

CPU - AMD Piledriver Fx8320 or FX6300 - (around 200€? maybe less?)
Motherboard - Asus Sabertooth 990 Fx - 150€
GPU - EVGA GTX 660 Ti - 300€
Case - HAF X - 140€
PSU- Corsair TX750 - 100€
Ram - Corsair LP 8Gb -50€
Cooler- Hyper 212 Evo -40€
HDD- SSD OCZ 60 Gb - 60€

1 - Ok I´ve checked prices on amazon uk and on some sites, does it look like a solid build?

2- CAD and rendering software uses a lot of ram do you guys think I can get more ram like 12 Gb?

3- I think 60Gb may be too small any advice within my budget?

4- Can within my 1200-1400 € budget and making changes like a smaller case or something get a Xeon build faster and better for rendering, and also a very casual gaming?

Many thanks everyone. thumb.gif

hello,
if its a work pc,you should go for two hard drives and raid them with raid 1 to back up your work.the sdd's are very fault tolarrent, but they have an life span that you dont when it will end.
as for ram, never used cad,but i have never seen anything i use use more than i have (8gb).
