I got a Galaxy tab for browsing the web and reading books on the bus, which is what I do mainly use it for (Yay, I can finally carry my library). i play Battletech (tabletop wargame; same franchise as Mechwarrior), and it is nice to have all my rule books, source books, record sheets (in PDF form), and what not with me when I go to games, and when I am elsewhere I have a number of novels loaded up (from Play store mostly). I also have music loaded on it for when I have no network and Pandora for when I do.
Aside from that, I also sometimes use if for bringing up reference documents when repairing stuff, and viewing recipes when I am in the kitchen trying something new (or baking, since that's more science than art IMO). it comes with me when I go out of town rather than my laptop now and sees much the same use as the laptop did for travel.
The only real shortcoming is that the onscreen keyboard sucks for typing, so if I need to get some work done on the go, the laptop has to come with me. I could use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard (lack the former, but have the latter with a touchpad on it), but I wouldn't compose a wordy document on such a small screen.
