Do I really need this much power?

Thread Starter
Build:

Chassis 600T
CPU i5 3570k @4.6ghz
Mobo ASRock X6
RAM Vengeance 8gb (+8 more later)
SSD Samsung 830 (128gb)
Corsair H100
GPU MSI Frozr 4 - @4gb/OCed
7x Corsair Fans

Also considering the GPU I am getting I don't need a 2nd one I feel. XD

PSU I picked out, but seems pricey, I know build quality is amazing though! And full modular:

I dont see a problem with it, Its not completely overkill. Gives you some room for overclocking and mabe some extra hard drives.

As stated in your other thread, a quality high-end unit 650w like that Seasonic X unit is also capable of SLI that 680 with overclocks. So yes, that unit is more than plenty for a single GPU card. This is also true with the high-end Capstone units that had been recommended as well.

Totally agree with this statement, but (this being OCN and all) if you want to have a little more headroom without spending crazy $$$ then I'd recommend this OCZ unit:

It's full of Seasonic goodness and only runs you an extra $20 (after $20 MIR) for 200W more. Fully modular, 5 year warranty, 80+ gold, and I've never heard it even over just my Noctua fans. It's handled my 130W CPU well past 4.5Ghz and two OCed 7950s (the ones on 7970 PCBs, so that's a total of four 8-pin connectors). You don't need that much power by a long stretch, but if you just like the peace of mind that comes with knowing your PSU is over-speced, then it could be an attractive option.

if it is overkill then you will know you won't need to upgrade for a long time.

I have that psu and havent had a problem with it yet. The only thing I really dont like about it is the cable management. I feel that the 24 pin and 8 pin cpu power cables are too short and the cables are pretty stuff and hard to layout to get the side of the case back on. Im just throwing that out there. Other than that its a good little psu.

I'd agree about the stiff cables. The only ones I had an issue with on length (and thickness) were the PCIe power, but that's probably down to what case you have though. The 600T looks like it has pretty nice routing options, so I probably wouldn't worry too much. My 300 two on the other hand, well let's not go there.

I know the feeling man, at first I had all my components in an Antec 900 and as much as I loved that case It sure was terrible for cable management.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
109_2511.jpg

Then I picked up a 600T, much better except for the fact that the abound of bends in the cables really seems to pull on stuff and makes me feel uncomfortable looking at it. It doesnt look bad, but if you could just see in in person you would want to cringe.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
109_2541.jpg

I have thought about going the mdpc-x sleeving route but I feel that the gauge of the wires is just to thick to really make that much of a difference so I placed an order for extensions and an N670 GTX PE yesterday. Cant wait till Wednesday till it gets here is i wont have to look at this as soon as I walk in the house. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
109_2555.jpg

That is after I installed some fans and a fan controller so I tried to redo my cable management and completely failed so it can stay that way for now or something may get thrown rolleyes.gif

That is not a SeaSonic power supply. It's from HighPower (formerly Sirfa). Not all PSUs are made by SeaSonic.

I got that OCZ ZX 850 Watt for $90 as a shell shocker smile.gif It's pretty nice, not the best though. And its not built by Seasonic, or High-power, it's built by "Great Wall"
