And the cheapest non-ref 7950 on newegg.com is $309.99 but the cheapest 670 is $359.99 so it's not just Canada where the prices are getting closer.

Got my HIS IceQ Turbo $299 from newegg. Can hit 1100 core on 1.012 voltage.... So you see some non-ref at $299 smile.gif

rubbish. every review site has said that at 1600p HD 7970 Ghz starts to pull away . especially when you try to max settings on all games.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/HD_7970_Toxic_6_GB/28.html

2560 x 1600

HD 7970 (925) - 88
GTX 680 - 89
HD 7970 Ghz (1050) - 97
HD 7970 (1100) - 100
HD 7970 (1200) - 106

At 1600p the GTX 680 boosting upto 1.1 Ghz depending on the sample is matched by the ref HD 7970 (925) . HD 7970 Ghz is clearly faster.

here is a factory overclocked GTX 680 running at 1175 Mhz boost

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Point_Of_View/GeForce_GTX_680_TGT_Ultra_4_GB/28.html

GTX 680 - 95
POV TGT GTX 680 (1175) - 100
HD 7970 Ghz - 105

With overclocking the perf scaling of HD 7970 is better. HD 7970 (1.2 Ghz) is enough to beat a GTX 680 (1.3 Ghz). there are other reviews where the results are more in favour of the HD 7970. so stop with the misinformation.

For 2033 and Mafia II, if the benchmark is optimized, so is the game itself.

When I OC to 1150 I set it to 75 just to be sure but it still works fine with 70.If you feel that it's getting hot then set it to 80-85%.You probably need that when reaching 1.2ghz.

thank you, i thought it is only me. i was considering to RMA it but your input has convinced me otherwise. i guess it hits a certain frequency or resonance with the fans between 50-70% and since i really want to watercool that badboy (btw, haven't started to OC yet, f*ck me right?) hopefully it won't be a problem in the future. i still consider to take of the fans and clean dust or re lubricate them. (any ideas for an oil for this?)

to the topic:
can anyone give good benches/games to stress my card (i.e. for best stability in a variety of games) and to check OC and temps?

Unigine Heaven is a good bench that will stress your card enough to give you an idea of stability and temps.

I usually use it and 3dmark11.
