Is Indigo Xtreme worth it?

Thread Starter
TItle explains the subject. I have heard about Indigo Xtreme for a while and read an article on SkineeLabs comparing to a few other high end TIMs. The article said temps decreased by an average of 2.5*C, but it is $20 for two applications. I am also a little uncomfortable with the application method since you have to run Prime95 or something similar with no fans/pump working. Has anybody around here tried this stuff, if so what were results and how was the application process? Thanks in advance

Consider they way it is installed, i'd assume get the torch out and heat some solder up fora while and solder my heat sink to my cpu. (maybe on old hardware)

Install was really pretty easy. I mean it was scary to see my CPU hit 95C but its only there for a fraction of a second.

As far as results I was not wow'd by it. I mean it works pretty good, about inline with some of the better TIM's out there. I does seem to perform better for longer high temp situations (Prime 95) then a normal TIM did but for normal and idle temps its nothing impressive.

I think the biggest draw for me was that its a "perfect paste" job if you will. You dont really have to be concerned with air bubbles and ext.

I am very worried about removal. Most people have had to scrape it off from what Ive seen.

I would say if you got money to blow to give it a shot. If not just get some normal TIM.

It's good if your CPU's IHS is concave and you can't be bothered to lap it.

Admittedly, running a $600 CPU at 91c for 15 minutes was scary as hell.

Not worth it in most cases IMO.

temps isn't really gonna matter, just about all current hardware have safteys and your gonna be crusty skeleton before it degrades beyond use running at 95c 24/7. I don't really think it's worth it, a good lap and quality tim and good cooler and as long as it's in operating temp/specs i'd be happy.

if your using AMD cpu dont bother, I have 1090T tried one of em and I have my system at 100C for 15minutes and the thing didnt even do the reflow.. they said it might be just a deffective one but never gonna try that again, once is enough... maybe if you use intel CPU then you could try it w/o worrying as they have higher max TDP compared to AMD cpu's.

I used to use AS5, I tried PK-1 about 3weeks ago or so since I needed some tubing and new block (Raystorm) and tested the PK1 with my old block before switching (Rasa) and I seen 3C difference between them, PK-1 is pretty darn good.. but more pain in the ass to apply compared to AS5.

Sazz is right about applying it...PITA...and getting it to cure...but my results have always exceeded expectations and I've never gotten better temps with any paste-type TIM at full load or in games. Removing it is no big deal...most of it usually comes off in a big hunk...the best part of it outside the excellent results is you get a cool-looking pair of purple surgeons gloves to apply it with...nothing more strange to look at than a guy with purple gloves playing with PC parts...
