Need help with Foxconn Bloodrage + Xeon e5530 + dual channel Corsair

Thread Starter
My sistem is made of:
-Foxconn Bloodrage
-Intel Xeon E5530
-8 Gb dual channel Corsair Vengeance
-Gigabyte GTX 260

I have a problem with computer freezing randomly needing a hard restart. After searches i found out that a lot of people have this problem with i7 (and x58 mobo's) and Win 7 x64. The remedy that seems to work for the most of them is to set manually the memory timings and voltages.

My particular problem is that when i turn on System Turbo, even without changing anything (some random / auto settings get activated when enabling it) pc won't boot. Are those automatic settings not good ?

I got some pictures form bios. I'll gladly follow your advice in this matter. Thanks.

Edit: All i want (for now) is to set memory to 9-9-9-24 and 1.5V (stock voltage) to see if i still get this freezes.

dude, im having the same problem. i am using bloodrage with an intel i7 975 Extreme edition, my bios is p09 (downgraded from p11) and windows 7 ultimate x64

everything works fine with defaults, but even enabling the system turbo causes my computer to instantly shutdown when i save to rom, then it works fine, but if i restart it causes it to go into overclock recovery.

pls lemme know if u find a fix, i really don't wanna buy a new motherboard

I don't really know what's happening; when i got the mobo+cpu combo they were in someones computer and they were working fine at 3Ghz (from 2.4). With my setup they don't want to be overclocked, with exactly the same bios settings. I don't know if it's the PSU, the ram or the GPU. For now i don't need the extra speed but when i'll do i'll start all over again the troubleshooting. I think it may be the ram in my case because i get random freezes and i need to restart the pc when this happens. They are rare now, maybe once every 2 weeks but it bugs me because i know something is wrong.

A good guide here and a lot of usefull info on E5530 here too.

http://forum.xcpus.com/f87/foxconn-blood-rage-overclocking-guide-16727.html

Try disabling the overclocking recovery that was the first thing that helped in my situation. If OC fails, you have quantum reset and cmos reset to help you out.

Xeons have difficulties running RAM at stock settings for various reasons. There is a lot of setting you will have to tinker with to get it running stable with decent OC. So far I got my E5530 to 3.6 with ht enabled and RAM at 2200mhz stable. There are lots of unexplainable and unpredictable working combination of setting, almost like BloodRage has a mind of its own. I will see what all the info I can provide to be more helpful soon. The problem is that im in a process of RMAing my RAM kit at the moment.

yes, i have heard the the bloodrage uses the wrong memory timings, try manually adjusting these, adn as for disablling overclock recovery, where would this option be at in the p09 bios? (if i find it and get it working i will repost)

overclock recovery is in OC gear settings at very buttom. Should be there in all bios versions.

yes, this was disabled already, i have tried to disable the backup bios entirely by adjusting the bios jumper to bios rom 2 only, the problem still persists.

I got some new RAM, just simplest PNY. Found out that with that RAM kit there is no oveclocking whatsoever. Than I put in 2gb 1066 kit form Gskill and oveclocked it to 1866 with CPU at 3.6Ghz without a problem at all. Bloodrage is just very picky on RAM I guess, have to find a kit that will work.
