Dead monitor.

Okay, so I was up late gaming last night...woke up this morning, turned on my monitor (ASUS VS248H-P) and it wasn't working. Out of frustration, I gave it a few shakes and it started working again. It was working fine until it started flickering. Now, when I turn on the monitor, the thing shows 2 seconds of the splash screen, then goes blank. I tried switching from hdmi to dvi and the same thing still happens; its not my video card either because I plugged the monitor into my laptop...same problem. When looking at it from the side, I can see that it still displays everything because I am able to see the desktop. I did a little researching and it seems like there are a few burnt capacitators inside. So, I was wondering what I should do from here :S

1) get a new monitor

2)fix it myself

3)take it to a electronics shop

Any suggestions appreciated x.x

Well depending on how old the monitor is I would suggest contacting the manufacturer or the company that you bought it from. I know I just recently bought a new monitor and I ended up getting an extended warranty as well (just to be safe). I am not really sure how difficult fixing it yourself would be, I don't know your skill set, but if you can do it and it wouldn't be too expensive I would go with that option. Perhaps also get a quote from an electronics shop and see how much it would cost you there to get it fixed.

I would try and get this monitor back up and running unless you really want to get a new one.

Good luck!

Yeah I think I'll try to get a quote first before I start wrecking anything... This is starting to make me think that getting a laptop will be a better choice for me lol.

Have you had a lot of troubles with monitors in the past? Because if you ask me desktops still have some advantages it just really depends on what you need to get done.

Good luck! smile.gif

They have not given me much trouble, but then again, this was my first build and I just feel like its taking way too long.

Well you can't really assume that every build you do will have a part go bad. But then again its just what we have to deal with when buying parts.
