Old C2D sitting in drawer forever, no casing, think it is okay?

I have an old C2D E6600 I'm planning to use in a build for a friend of mine, but I'm a little bit concerned if it will still work after what it's 'been through'. I know that it worked before I put it in the drawer to rot away, but I'm concerned sitting in there with other computer parts might have ruined it somehow. I don't see any obvious physical damage on the bottom, nor any scratches when held to the light.

Thoughts on anything else to look for?

Also: does anyone know if this is a Socket 478 or 775 processor? I'm assuming 775 but there's information I've found to go either way : /

if it worked before and you see no damage on bottom i think it would be fine. best thing to do is test it out.

It's probably fine.

Problem is I have no 775 motherboards laying around to test it out with, guess my best bet is to just buy one from Microcenter and if it doesn't work return it.

Also thanks for input, makes me feel a little bit better

It will work fine and it is indeed a 775... 478 have pins on it instead of on the mobo

Aha, thanks very much. I wasn't really into computers during this generation of processors way back in '05. I was counting the pins on it like 33x33 so I was figuring but it's good to have confirmation, +rep
