Did you install Windows in AHCI mode, and install AMD AHCI drivers?

so this is bench after installing amd ahci drivers you sent me

and this one is right after it, in safe mode

much better, but there are still some drops
and i am not sure what does installing windows in ahci mode mean biggrin.gif

Drops are normal. I've only got about 1/5 drives that have no drops whatsoever. Access times look good now, and overall the graph is pretty stable.

Oh - I meant when you installed Windows you were in AHCI mode in the BIOS. Sean has a good guide on how to avoid having to reinstall Windows to flip modes.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1227636/how-to-change-sata-modes-after-windows-7-installation/0_100

If you do get AHCI mode turned on properly, reinstall those AMD AHCI drivers again and then re-test after a reboot. smile.gif

Without AHCI, NCQ is disabled - NCQ allows drives to rearrange reads/writes into a more optimal order. It's a very good thing to have enabled, but you'll have to follow Sean's guide to do it without a Windows reinstall.

NCQ is useful for SSDs or multiuser systems.... it can actually hurt single user performance due to offerhead.

Not really. May have been the case in the past, but with the average number of processes creeping up to 80-100 for most Windows boxes, it's highly unlikely it'll hurt performance. There's a lot of I/O happening in the background now. Every time you launch a program NCQ helps speed that up by making sure the conflicting I/O happens in the most optimal way. Even when playing a single game it helps, by allowing writes to step aside and let more critical reads happen first. (Something programmers could code in, but usually don't.)

For SSDs it's particularly useful, since you need to flood SSDs with requests to get all the NAND channels operating at once.
