[Techspot.com] Crucial v4 256GB vs. OCZ Agility 4 256GB SSD Shootout

Thread Starter
I remember when I bought my Agility 2 I did countless hours of research; and for gaming, multi-media and OS load time it was nearly as fast as the Vertex 2 and faster then the C300. The Agility 4 is out once again its one of the best, fastest SSD's for the money.

Drive looks promising and I do like that they are moving away from SandForce, as I work with a lot of incompressible data.

However, I still can't bring my self to use, let alone pay for, another OCZ SSD.
Meh, the V4 can be had for around £20 cheaper here in the UK and the M4 can even be found for a few quid cheaper than the Agility. How does it stack up against the M4?

Anyway, nice (I think) to see OCZ coming back, I thought they might fade away from SSD's after all the cut price OCZ drives on offer the last few months. I think it may be some time before a lot of people regain confidence in OCZ though frown.gif

had no problems with them since 2.13. With them having their own Indilinx boards, the Sandforce issue might be a thing of the past.

I don't know why they still continue to have a bad perception. All 3, now 4, of my OCZ drives are running flawlessly *okay*

I started with two OCZ SSDs. Two years, six RMAs, and about 100 dollars in shipping later, I have no working OCZ SSDs. I would have been happy to RMA drives at OCZs expense as fast as they could fail, but the time, effort, and money needed to send them back that quickly would have bankrupted me.

So yeah, I spent hundreds dollars on OCZs SSDs plus associated returns and have exactly nothing to show for it.

My issue wasn't Sandforce either, most of the drives didn't have Sandforce controllers. My issue was with OCZ sending me parts that either did not work, or that failed rapidly. Also, their support was slow, and not particularly competent.

Fastest and most unreliable, still surprised my Vertex 2 is alive.
Odd... I am not sure why people have trouble with OCZ SSD's... I have 5 of them, 3 of them are Vertex 2's, one is a vertex 1, and 2 are Agility 3's (6th is my brothers)... All of them have worked since day 1 and they are all still working as I type this... User error maybe?

Agreed ^^

I have had 4 OCZ drives now and they are all still working great.

Vertex 120 Gb, Vertex 60 Gb, Agility 3 120 Gb, Agility 3 60 Gb.

EDIT: So awesome!

Doesn't explain why literally dozens of other drives, HDD and SSD, have worked for me, without even a fraction of the problems.

My mini PCI-E OCZ SSDs in my EeePC overheated and corrupted themselves, repeatedly. My OCZ Enyo external SSDs worked fine as USB 2.0, but never worked correctly when connected to any USB 3.0 port I had access two (tried three different boards, two different brands of controller, three different cables, and about a dozen different drivers). My OCX Vertex 2s seemingly worked fine...then just died when being written to.

No. There have been known SandForce issues admitted by SandForce, OCZ, Intel, and other partners.

Vertex 1 is an Indilinx Barefoot and that had a minor firmware hiccup at one point as well. (Most SSD controllers have had at least one bad firmware issue.)
Once again...
