now i get it, more phases = less heat... (i.e. a better and more efficient way to transfer the heat to the VRM cooling)

Grats it clocked 7.1 for a whole second. If they put 184 phases on the board they might get 7.2 for a whole second.

Where is the time you at least needed to run a super pi.

How big is this thing? E-ATX? Can't find it on GBs website yet...

Where is the time you at least needed to run a super pi.

The biggest problem with Ivy bridge and overclocking is that the best chips are limited by Intel. By this I mean that the 63x multiplier was nowhere near enough. To get into the upper 6GHz range (and even into 7GHz), it becomes a competition of which chip/board combo can run the highest BCLK which starts to become incredibly difficult above 110 or so.

Super pi is still a very popular benchmark (this chip will probably run it at 6.95Ghz or so), but motherboard manufacturers seem to be holding onto max validation as the score to advertise, for obvious reasons.

Additionally, this board really does have a few groundbreaking features. PCI-E bridge chips have been known to limit performance when not using multiple cards (i.e. one card would perform worse if it had to run through a PCI-E bridge chip first, because of the added latency). Gigabyte came up with the idea of including the black slot as well. If a single card is run in this slot, it uses the PCI-E lanes directly from the CPU rather than running them through the bridge chip which makes 4-way SLI available.

The second big improvement for benchmarking is the LN2 switch. The ability to go from ~4.0GHz up to max overclock by flipping a switch is awesome. It allows you to lower the frequency after you complete the near impossible Super Pi run to open all of the necessary windows and then to raise it again to take the screenshot. Once you've done that, you can lower the frequency again and prepare for the next benchmark. Stable enough for Super Pi 1M is often not stable enough to take a screenshot and open Paint and all of that good stuff.

I'm sure there are more great features, but this is what has caught my eye so far.

it looks like it's an SSI ceb board with atx mounting holes, or "gamer" E-ATX, so probably around 10 to 10.5 inches max, at least by the pic they have up on there, it's a bit wider than atx, but no where near 12" of a true E-ATX board

Except here you have quality and quantity. The IR3550 are smoe of the best MOSFETs to ever be used on a motherboard. They are 60A power stages, however 50A DrMOS are a joke compared to these IR3550.
No other motherboard on this planet can do 2000W power output, not on video at least b/c the PCB would burn, but the way they designed it is very sound.

The MOSFETs used here in 32 phases is only used to show off and used so that the VRm runs extremely cool, you don't even need a heatsink, it is basically the same phases are the UP5 which is 8 phases and the UP4 which is 6 phases, each of those boards also has tremendous power output.

It is always quality over quantity, but here you have both. The list price on the VRM alone is as much as a mid range ASRock board. The retail price on these power stages is like $5 a pop, they don't pay that much, but they deff don't pay that much less than half that per phase only talking about the power stage.

GUys who have thus far done high phase count boards, MSI and GIGABYTE have kept quality the same. Here however the only difference between the UP7 and UP5 VRMs are the chokes, GB wasn't able to use those chokes b/c of size.

it is eATX, not longer than ATX, and only slightly wider than ATX.
