220 seems high for 2500k look for a sale our one used <200.

Same for 7850. Wouldn't pay more then 200 for it.

Fully overclocked the thuban 1050, 1090, 1100 is close to the 2500k. 8120, 8150 are also close on the AMD side. 6100 maybe not too far behind.

I found the 2500k for $200. I just list the deal for the monitor though. Sold out on New egg.

For playing SCII, AMD doesn't have a CPU that can compete with the i5. This game leverages a single core very aggressively and is heavily effected by single thread performance combined with L3 cache size.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-fx-pentium-apu-benchmark,3120-6.html

Notice, the Pentium G860 out-performs every AMD chip in this title. The i5-2400 adds another leap in performance above and beyond that due to it's larger L3 cache. The performance of the i5 at stock clocks, can only be matched by an AMD chip with significant and aggressive overclocking.

Yeah I did some research and it seems AMD doesn't compare, at least for gaming. And I'm not interested in overclocking, at least not for this build.

none for SCII, if you arent playing 3 or more multi-player you should be fine with an AMD chip. After that, late game will start to drag. For the majority of games though, you will be bottlenecked by your GPU before your CPU.

Damn, what a shame. Its all good, intel it is. I was just trying to save some money on the processor if it was basically the same thing in the end.

It depends on your CPU demands on the longevity. I made the switch from an e8400 to an i5 system and the games I play (MMO) hardly made any difference to my play style at all so I feel that I could have saved $400 on my build and waited a couple more years. The computer business has never changed, it is worse than buying a new car. Once you make your purchase something new gets announced even before you get your delivery and this is the way it has been and always will be. Best advice is to get current and proven components and be happy with what you get or you will constantly be broke.

Building your own system is very very addictive and can run you into the poor house if you are not careful. You will learn a ton about how a computer works and interacts this way over your average store bought customer. Then you can get into water cooling and case mods which is a thousand times more addictive. Check out this link.... http://www.overclock.net/t/584302/ocn-water-cooling-club-and-picture-gallery

Too awesome. I don't think I would go that crazy though. I will probably update components only if I see need to. If it gets the job done for what I intend it to, why change it? Since the begining I said I wasnt looking for the best, just looking for what I needed.

I had to water cool because of my location. I live in a house that is over 100 years old so there isn't any ansulation or air conditioning and right now it is 88 degrees in my room. Yet my cpu is at 39c and the gpu is at 44. I usually am folding all the time even while gaming but shut it down when both hit 60c. I know most people on air run higher than that in a cool room but that is the threshold I set for myself, keeps my components from working too hard so they will last that much longer.
