I know most people on air run higher than that in a cool room but that is the threshold I set for myself, keeps my components from working too hard so they will last that much longer.

That's crazy. I would die in a house like that in Miami during the summer. But I get you. That's pretty cool, first time I hear about this. Its great that you take care of your PC like that. For now I want to keep it basic for two reasons. I'm new at all this and I don't have much money to throw around. When I get passed both of these hills, ill consider it just for fun.

That's how everyone starts out. I started out years ago with DOS and Windows 3.1 and it seemed like you had to format your computer every time you added new software or hardware because something would conflict with something else. By starting fresh a few dozen times you learn how things interact. You'll learn. Don't be afraid to format and start over, just make sure you have unrecoverable files backed up first.

I was thinking of just getting myself a nice external hard drive and backup my files there.

You can buy one that is pre-made with the case or take an existing hard drive and just buy the case. My backup case holds 2 hard drives and can be made to be used as two individual drives or can act as one no matter if they are of different sizes. Works really nice because I don't need to have them turned on unless I need to use them so it takes two drives out of my system

Those dual bay external enclosures are great. We picked up one for my Sister in college a few years back so she can make double backups of everything.

I think the unit she has is more or less identical to this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182144

Cuople of caviar blues and it's been a reliable unit for years.

The computer business has never changed, it is worse than buying a new car. Once you make your purchase something new gets announced even before you get your delivery and this is the way it has been and always will be. Best advice is to get current and proven components and be happy with what you get or you will constantly be broke.
Building your own system is very very addictive and can run you into the poor house if you are not careful. You will learn a ton about how a computer works and interacts this way over your average store bought customer. Then you can get into water cooling and case mods which is a thousand times more addictive. Check out this link.... http://www.overclock.net/t/584302/ocn-water-cooling-club-and-picture-gallery

Oh gawd I just mentioned this thread and what it's done to me recently. I'm currently in the poor house and stuck with my Antec Kuhler 620 for now until the custom loop can come.
Anyways, sounds like you'll have a swell build with that parts list smile.gif You should be completely satisfied in your gamin experiences. The itch "addiction" will come later, you'll see thumb.gif

That is the exact one I picked up a year or so ago, got it for $15 on a Newegg daily deal.

With some more advice from Eric,

Here is what I have as of now:

Case: Rosewill Challenger / $50.00
CPU + OD: Intel i5 3470 + Asus DRW / $209.00
Motherboard: AsRock B75 Pro3 / $75.00
GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 660 / $230.00
PSU: Rosewill Capstone 450 / $65.00
HD: WD Blue WD10EZEX / $85.00
RAM: SAMSUNG 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR / $45.00
Monitor: ASUS VH242H Black 23.6" 5ms HDMI Full 1080P / $160.00
Keyboard and mouse: Still looking for a good deal.

Let me know what you guys think. I just found out yesterday that I will be moving soon so I decided to wait till I am all set up in the new place before building this baby and it getting damaged in the move.
Its all good, gives me a little bit more time to get it just right for the right price.
