PC Gaming Dead? - Page 3

I like the versatility of a the PC platform, besides I think that modding consoles is somewhat limited - and I LUV to mod!

Perhaps I will get a console one day...perhaps...

Well, I have never thought that PC gaming was at risk of being lost. However, with the increase of prices in every component (what I call "Corporate Bastardism"), I think that people may just want to drop the 600 bucks on a full console that has the same games. I mean, you can get an XB360 and a Wii for the price of an 8800. C'mon.

we can argue allong time on this ! but PC still comes out as best and will never lose his reputation as THE gaming rig....

it's thru that once a console has been brought out all games are playable but on it don't forget the graphics can't be as good after 6 months as good as a pc can do, why ? cause pc has more abilitys and you can upgrade your pc components rofl seen NFS Carbon ar such games on the PS2 rofl the graphics sucks ! (always has been but that's not the point)

I say gaming on the PC will forever stay and oh btw online gaming won't ever be on the console as it is on the PC

Consoles are old PC's shoved into a box, their only advantage is created by the game companies who actually make games for them instead of PC.

Why do they do this? They know they can make more money on consoles, which might be to do with less piracy than in PC games.

That might be true and all. But I was a hardcore console gamer before I got into pcs and I cant seem to get used to FPS on a pc. give me a controler and then I'll make something happen

PC gaming in the X360/PS3/Wii era is no more dead than it was when people made this suggestion in the XBox/PS2/GameCube era. Or any other era before it.

What has changed, however, is the gaming market. There are a zillion more gamers now than in previous eras, and the percentage of PC games in relation to the entire population of gamers is almost certainly lower than before. So while the perception may be that PC gaming is dying because there are fewer PC gamers than console gamers, the reality is that PC gaming is alive and well. Just not in the massive headcounts associated with console gaming.

Now that said, let me incite some riots with this prediction: PC gaming as we know it will die in the next 10-20 years. But not because people abandon the PC platform for games; rather, the PC itself will be radically different than we know it today, if it even exists at all. Most computers in the home will be specialized devices, like a game console or a Tivo today. (Heck, basic functions like this might be built right into futuristic TVs as standard equipment!) There will be little reason for most people to own a general purpose PC because the functions they use it for today will be readily available in cheaper, easier to use specialized devices. The number of people that own true PCs as we know them will therefore shrink, and in the modern "must show a 300% profit or it's a bust" world of gaming, that small market will not be well served by game publishers. They will divert their full attention to where the masses are playing games, not the PC enthusiasts.

If you don't agree me, fine, it's just fun speculation. But just consider that, 20 years ago, the stuff we have today was science fiction. If you think the PC is going to stay the same for 20 more years, I have a bridge to sell you.

Hehe... I should get my dad to write something here. He'll write a whole 2 pages on how games are teh devil and such. He, deep down, is still trying to get me to stop playing games.

Well said, Vulcan.

how wrong are you with that statement?!

i doubt GT4 with its lovely low amount of realism and poor graphics is a better game than GTR2 or GTR or Race - WTCC or GTLegends on the pc.

pc's are better for RPG's RTS' FPS' Driving Games

the other thing is a pc can be upgraded whereas a console cannot be
