Seedbox question

Thread Starter
I'm looking for a cheap seedbox. The only one's I've found under 10 bucks a month have a limit of only about 10GB. If I were to download a file greater then 10GB, but download from my seedbox while the seedbox is still downloading the file, would that allow me to do so? What I mean is, If I'm downloading from my seedbox, would my seedbox then not save that information, thus allowing me to download files of pretty much any size?

Ya, I've never had a seedbox...

I don't think what you're suggesting is possible due to how BitTorrent uses pieces.

Don't know of any good seedboxes but the best seedbox is your home computer if you have a fast upload connection. I have 20Mb/s up (more like 15) at home and 20Mb/s down at university so it's a good match.

Oh that's right. So then you can only download a file once the seedbox is finished downloading?

Also, isn't a seedbox technically not p2p seeing as it's really just peer to server to peer?

1. depends how the seedbox is set up. But you can transfer partially downloaded files if you want - you just might not beable to do anything with it. But again, that depends on the torrents you download from and how your seedbox is set up. Though, and with the greatest of respect, if you're having to ask this question then I think getting this all set up like that might be technical for you.

2. no. torrent is always peer to peer. The only thing a seedbox does as change the location of you (ie you're torrenting from a different location then moving the completed contents to a local PC).

Quite honestly, I think there are much better options available for you. Particularly if you after legal content wink.gif - and if you're not, then I can't really discuss them anyway.

You could allways use the HORRIBLE "stream" option that r/micro torrent has which would do this, your seedbox would "stream" then you would point your torrent client to the seed box and "strean" the content

But that is kind of defeating the point of the BT protocall, and rember to seed, whemn you downlaod 10GB upload at least 15!
