WCCFTech reported this morning that Ivy Bridge-EP processors will have up to 12 cores and 30 MB of L3 cache. As previously reported the processors will be branded as the Xeon E5-1600/2600/4600 v2 series, and will launch in Q3 2013.

Based on a leaked Chinese Intel Roadmap, they stated:
Quote:
The leaked slides detail the Xeon E5 series CPU's which would be based on the Ivy Bridge 22nm manufacturing node featuring 12 Cores and 24 threads replacing the Sandy Bridge-EP platform. The new processors would remain compatible with the LGA2011 socket and C600 series PCH.

Intel is rapidly approaching AMD's core density. Pretty crazy, particularly with that IPC.

Hopefully Ivy-E will have a fully enabled and unlocked 12 core i7 option.

A dozen cores and twice as many threads at 4-4.5GHz each would be nice.

I would buy that in a heartbeat.

Even a handicap 10 core with 2 core disabled is a great upgrade from Sandybridge E

Yes. Even if none of the xeons in Ivy-EP can be OC'd, I'd be content with a friggin' 12-core unlocked i7 monster.

Yes.

(Please let them support OC'ing...)

I still can't believe it's been delayed 'til Q3 '13, but, this news may make it worth the wait ^_^

i would love to see a 4 socket motherboard that supports overclocking with these. i wouldnt care if it costed a fortune, i think it would make a beastly folding rig!

xeons are fully locked, extremely overpriced, and wont' support even 100 MHz higher than stock guys.
wait until they trickle down to Core.

You would be easily set for the next 10 years without having to buy a CPU again. Software is way too far behind to utilize something that big. Tho I imagine it would run an easy $1500, which is quite a dent.

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
