WCCFTech reported this morning that Ivy Bridge-EP processors will have up to 12 cores and 30 MB of L3 cache. As previously reported the processors will be branded as the Xeon E5-1600/2600/4600 v2 series, and will launch in Q3 2013.
Based on a leaked Chinese Intel Roadmap, they stated:

The leaked slides detail the Xeon E5 series CPU's which would be based on the Ivy Bridge 22nm manufacturing node featuring 12 Cores and 24 threads replacing the Sandy Bridge-EP platform. The new processors would remain compatible with the LGA2011 socket and C600 series PCH.
12 cores!? That is just amazing news! I'd still upgrade even if they were 10 cores, as previously rumored, but this'll make the delay much more tolerable. 50% more Folding power FTW!
I kind of expected this. Intel had been making the 10 core/ 20 thread CPU's for more than a year now. I believe they were based on a 32nm architecture. I'll wait for the 16 core / 32 thread processors to come out before I invest in a multi-CPU server.
i would love to see a 4 socket motherboard that supports overclocking with these. i wouldnt care if it costed a fortune, i think it would make a beastly folding rig!
You would be easily set for the next 10 years without having to buy a CPU again. Software is way too far behind to utilize something that big. Tho I imagine it would run an easy $1500, which is quite a dent.
