Samsung Galaxy S3 "Camera Failed" issue :/

Thread Starter
Just got this phone today and I can't get the camera to work. When I launch the camera it just shows the UI with a black background and then soon after it says the camera has failed and it exits back to the home screen.

I've tried updating the phone and doing factory resets but it doesn't fix it. Have looked around a bit and the only solution I've seen is to press the power button while you're trying to use the camera but it doesn't work for me.

Anyone know how to sort this??

Thanks

Does a 3rd party camera app do the same thing?
This smells like a hardware issue - you may need to send the phone back.

Yeh I've tried that and they all do. I can get the front camera to work using one of the diagnostics screens by typing *#7353# The back camera fails on that also though. I am planning on getting a replacement but was hoping I could fix it myself. I've just got this thing and I don't want it to leave my hands and then have to wait for a new lol :/
