This is the build log of my current project, which I have deemed, "Red Rover". I've torn it down 3 times for various mods/upgrades I have listed below. But now it's going to be watercooled with DUAL 480MM RADIATORS INSIDE THE CASE. Read all about it below.

May 29th - Inception

June 11th - Tear Down #1, 200 up front, and who would tear aprt a perfectly fine PSU?

June 13th - Only 4 drive bays now

June 16th - Running again

June 26th - Small, but big difference

This is the second time I've taken this build down to the dissassembled frame, with many mods in progress.



I cut out the moby tray where the left radiator will go ( I'll have two of them sitting on their sides in tandem).



I made a few cutouts for more hidden wire management.





And I cut out a hole for and glued in my power extension cable so I can hide the whole cable from the other side.



A couple shots of the mess of parts laying around. No GPU here, as I traded off my non-ref 6950 and bought a reference XFX 6950 2GB but it won't be here for 2 more days.

Today I hope to start reassembly. I'll take pictures along the way. I tried to touch up the white paint on the frame earlier, but I rushed it and it turned out like crap, so I'm not going to mess with repainting it until I disassemble it again to install the loop.

August 31st - running again!

September 5th - Door Mod

September 6th - More Door Mod

Thanks, Ken! I have a history of being creative with my builds, whether they were trucks, motorcycles, or even model cars.

Anyway, here's a short update with progress pics. My GPU will be here tomorrow, so I hope to have this reassembled and ready for it by the time it gets here. I'll be doing a tear down of this build again soon, so some of the details, like paint, are not a huge concern at this time.

I re-mounted the PSU, and was happy to find out that I have just enough room left in my bottom 5.25" bay for it to be usuable. Previously, before I welded the floor in, I used a screwed-on 5.25-3.5" adapter to hold the sides of the drive bays together, so to see I have that bay back is nice. I put my DVD-RW drive there for now, though I may move it again.





Got my I/O panel installed, and here's the wiring so far...





And the hole I made bigger up top just below the I/O panel? I didn't have to make it quite as big as I did, but it worked to allow me to fit the surprise:



That's the I/O's from a Phantom 410, less the fan controller switch. I cut it off but kept it's PCB intact so I can hopefully use it later to control the fans on my radiators (edit - I ditched that idea and I'm now going to mount a second fan controller in the top identical to the original) . Once I get it mounted solid, I'll mold an I/O shield into the cover and paint it.

Did you notice any stability problems with the case after you the motherboard tray like that? I would think it would be a bit wobbly.

I have very little experience with Computers, but that being said as long as he has Re-enforced it securely to the three sides it's attached to, it'l be a steady as a rock. And I'm sure once the Rads are in it'l be attached to them anyway strengthening it further.

It is a little wobbly, but not much when all corners are flat on the ground. As Kirky noted, it's rock solid when I put the doors on and will be even more sturdy once I bolt in the rads.

Progress update. I got all 3 200mm fans installed and wired in, and have my 2.5" drives in place:





I had to notch out the front of the top cover for the stacked drives to fit forward the way they are.





Stacking the SATA power cables was a pain.... But I got it done.







And the UPS guy made me happy today biggrin.gif.



Too bad I'd have to completely dissassemble the card to put the EK backplate on, or I'd run it on there with the stock cooler till I got the rest of the WC parts. Oh well, it'll have to wait.

Thanks. It was an old external drive my wife had that she gave me. I took it out of it's shell and immediately knew I wanted to stack it on my SSD and hide them together.
