From what I understand, their plan is to use microtransactions. However they won't do it in the traditional manner. I am not sure if they plan on using the expansion model like they did before or if they are going to release smaller content packs overtime. But basically they plan on making all their money by releasing new content like dungeons and scenarios and not by nickel and diming with cool gear/pets. Also the perks from items you can buy are supposed to have minimal effect on game balancing. Basically gold/influence boosting.

The microtransactions are only for xp boosts and cosmetic crap. I can live with that, if it keeps the game going.

As others have said sub fees are mostly a scam, mostly pure profit for the company.

A Blizzard CM said yesterday (or the day before) that the majority of WoW's sub fees go towards customer support, but trying to convince us that customer support requires $135 million a month just for WoW is utter rubbish. At this rate WoW players most likely paying for Starcraft and Diablo 3 support as well, along with development for future expansions that they may or may not end up playing. Yet Blizzard continue to charge $40-50 with every new expansion on top of the monthly fees. They are literally raking in pure profit.

There really isn't much to worry about since it is sub free, chances are you will get your monies worth for the game. That's is also why I find it is an unfair comparison to other MMOs, not having a sub is a huge advantage.

Yaaaaaaaaayyyy!! More people to play with!!

More than anything else, I'm happy that they'll finally have more pressure to fix the bugs and outstanding technical issues (coughwikicough).

IMO it's a bit silly to expect mind-blowing PvE from a game that prides itself on PvP, it's like complaining about Battlefield 3's campaign and missing the multiplayer.

I really hope that you're not serious.
GW1 kept my attention for years even without PvP. I'll concede that the PvP was very strong, but I'd hardly put it higher than the PvE.

I've heard GW2 compared to RIFT in several ways, and I feel like the comparisons are somewhat accurate. It seems as though RIFT has a greater variety of dynamic events, but the races were too cartoonish and I didn't even think about subscribing.

GW2, however, I might just be willing to pay for on a monthly basis - it's that good. But everybody had better disagree with me so that ArenaNet doesn't get any ideas. <.< >.> ph34r2.gif

Hey I think the PvE is fine. Not out-of-this-world, but definitely unique enough to keep me interested.

I was just repeating what I've been reading around from other people tongue.gif

This is a great game. I swore off MMOs years ago and could barely find one to keep my attention. The PvE and world events are great. Running to a mission.... "Oh there is a giant centaur that EVERYONE sees on the map and runs over to help."

And then there is World Vs World PVP that levels you up to 80 where you can ALSO PvE in. And structured pvp which is 15 man servers that ALSO levels you up. Both of which have instant teleports.

This game is just so damn good. No hype here.

I personally enjoy the PvE more than PvP in GW2. Despite priding themselves in PvP, the PvE is still great. I've seen and been a part of Anets PvP balancing strategy and I can tell you that it won't keep your interest for very long, at least mine. Their idea of balance is nerfing everything except one meta, instead of embracing a counter meta, they see the counter as overpowered. There's a reason everyone left the original Guild Wars pvp scene.

Rift races cartoonish? Lol, no way. Rift is imo the best PvE game right now. There is SOOO much content, and it keeps coming. Definitely worth a shot if you don't like GW2.
