Cheap speakers/speaker system for new TV

Thread Starter
Hello everyone,

So I just bought a new TV about 2 weeks ago and am thoroughly enjoying it! The sound could use a little work though, but that's expected with most any new TV and it's built in speakers. This is the TV: Samsung UN467000LF

Newegg just put some speakers I was looking at on sale for half off! These are the speakers:Pioneer SP-BS21

My questions are as follows:

  1. What would I need to hook up those speakers to my TV
  2. If I need something extra, name some quality but cheap things that I would need (Best bang for your buck kind of deal)
  3. If you know of any cheap subs as well that would be appreciated
  4. Maybe there are better speakers in the price range of the ones I have linked, what are those?

Thanks for your help in advance!

I would look no further than those Pioneer speakers for something on the cheap. Do not pay more than $99 shipped for them, though. They consistently go on sale. Don't allow yourself to be forced into buying them when they're not on sale due to being impatient. tongue.gif

Their sensitivity is very low. You will need about 40-50W to power them above 90dB at 10-15 feet listening distance.

How are you connected to the TV now? Are you using cable, computer, DVI, HDMi, etc.? I would recommend a basic A/V receiver with optical inputs.

If your willing to spend $99 on speakers wait till the monitor 30's go on sale and pick up a pair. Then you can add a subwoofer in later on if you need the extra bass, trust me you'll want it tongue.gif

Note speakers like these need a amp/receiver to power them. Get a good receiver with HDMI support and you'll be set, you can use a cheaper t-amp if you wanted but you probably would not have remote control of the volume.

Thanks guys! +REP to both of you. Sadly they were only a 1 day sale it looks like :/ Probably for the best though. Kind of tight on money as it is.

I'm showing $49.99 for the BS21 and $99 for the BS41 at NewEgg right now. I would jump on one of those IMMEDIATELY. Even if you have to buy the speakers now and wait several weeks before you can get some kind of amplifier or receiver.

Bah! I may have just missed them again. I actually got an Email from Newegg today with some promotion Coupons for speaker systems, and am interested in y'alls thoughts.

I'm a sucker for bundles, so the three I'm looking at are:

These two Yamaha Sets have the full package and would be 30% off

Yamaha YHT-397BL

Yamaha YHT-497BL

Then there is this set without a receiver that could be 40% off:

Polk Audio TL1600

All of them after the discounts applied would be around the same price, so I guess the question becomes which bundle is best for the price?

Or a better question might be, would it be better to build my own bundle of products even if that means a bit more of a hassle?

Thanks again for all of your help!
