22nm Xeon an i7's , whats the max safe operating temp/voltage?

im mainly lookin to see what the max 24/7 temps are but max vcore would be great too

Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) 77W 22nm

Intel Xeon E3-1275 V2 Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) 77W 22nm

it was a key factor in buying my X3210 as it can handle 80c and i think the G0 Core2Quad's were mid 60's max temp?? thinking.gif
from what i was told an understand, Xeons are picked from the best part of the wafer(the center i believe it was)
to me that sounds like some of the best VID's an OC'ing? or maybe i just got lucky with the lowest VID 1.2125 on the Xeon i have now

any help would be appreciated
thx

So I am confused then. what are you trying to compare here?

A cpu that is more than likely capable of 5+ghz, versus a xeon, which will cap you at 4.2 or 4.3 if I am not mistaken?

based on which one will be able to survive at the highest voltage?

I am sorry, I really don't understand what it is you are looking for here.

reason is my Xeon has a 15c higher safe operating temp then its C2Q counter part
reason 2 i dont remember 2 many Q6600's pushing 500+ FSB stable on air

If memory serves right, both cpus you linked have the same TJ-maxx.

This wont matter, because you can overclock that xeon very much.

Just get the 3770K. The Xeon is NOT overclockable, the multiplier is locked and the base clock is pretty much fixed. But I think you will find that both pieces of silicon are pretty much equal in Voltage and Temperature resistance. The 3770K is the ONLY choice if you are overclocking.

doh.gif since when did they stick it to Xeons.........
i mean dam i been MIA for a few years but wow
since when did we just ditch the FSB:DRAM ratio? OC'ing by moving the multi..... that was like a sin to me..... FSB!!! PUSH IT!!!
.......... man.... how times change...

It's to accommodate Intel's new structure. Everything is moving to the CPU itself. PCI-e and memory controllers ar already fully integrated to the CPU. Since the base clock controls everything on the CPU it is not possible to change it, not by more than a couple of MHz anyway, since that would disrupt the PCI-e frequency. It's just one of the changes that has been made in order to move to a new integrated architecture.

This just means that to overclock you need to have an unlocked multiplier and since Xeons are server parts, they do not.
