Also the only reason if you would even want the 7970 is only if you plan to do Eyefinity 5 or Eyefinity 6 setups
the GTX 680 can easily manage Surround+1 (3x1) setup or Quad screen setup (2x2)
The only reason I've chosen the 7970 for my rig is simply due the GTX 680 / 690 not having support for 6 monitors, else i'd have gone for the 690 or two 680 instead.
so for me the 7970 was the only choice as it was the only cards that offered 6 display output from a single card, and still perform awesomely at 5760 x 2160
