[NBR] Clevo P370EM Review. Dual 4GB GTX 680M in a mobile chassis

A M18x Challenger? Hmmm....

Quote:
The P370EM is a step in the right direction in terms of overall design and is welcome departure from Clevo's traditional "boring" notebook appearance. That said, the P370EM still follows the long-standing Clevo practice of emphasizing performance over fit and finish. The P370EM might deliver some of the best-in-class benchmark scores among 17-inch gaming and multimedia notebooks, but Clevo (and Eurocom) have a long way to go if they want to surpass the build quality and appearance of the Alienware M17x or HP ENVY 17 notebooks.

If you can live with less-than-perfect build quality and good (but not great) appearance then the Eurocom Scorpius (Clevo P370EM) is one of the best 17-inch gaming notebooks that money can buy and one of the few notebooks that offers dual NVIDIA GeForce 680M graphics cards in SLI for exceptional in-game performance.

A little too rich for my blood.

EDIT: For the price and performance, I would rather have an Envy.

3 minutes of battery life, sounds like fun.

I don't get it. Half of the viewing experience is the screen. Two GTX680M's and a TN panel? What a shame. I'd rather have one GTX680M and an IPS panel, 1440p resolution at least. You know that card can push it.

Everyone keeps talking about IPS over TN, but I don't think it means what they think it means. IPS is in plane switching, it gives better viewing angles. As a side effect, it most often has higher than average color reproduction, but that's mainly a side effect of it's main feature - viewing angles. I don't understand at all why for gaming someone would favor IPS over TN. And 1440p in a laptop is not going to come for a LONG time, not until powerhouses like Apple and samsung innovate portable screens by an entire generation; an evolution that JUST started.

As is the best way of looking at laptops, the biggest payoff is to invest heavily in graphics. There's plenty of systems out there with a single 680m, this thing fills it's niche perfectly in my opinion.

Because we love the amazing image quality that comes along with the IPS panel. If you're going to spend this amount of money on this power, its still shadowed by the fact that it has a cheap sub-$100 tn panel.

Oh I completely understand that, don't get me wrong, I'm a color lover.

It's just that in my experience with a few of LG's IPS monitors, a Zenbook, iPad 2, 3, 27" iMac and Cinema displays... IPS is good... but not great.

What IS great and what would be awesome in a laptop like this? An RGB LED 120hz version of the legendary display in the M17x R1/2 and the XPS 16. Mother of god. I wish everyone could have seen this screen. It's beyond words and way beyond anything IPS can do.

Now that I think about it, it is kinda weird that this overpowered beast of a laptop doesn't have a 120hz panel, i'm sure its easily enough to power it at 1080p. But considering the price compared to Alienware, cant expect everything.

TNs have lower response time FOR GAMING. IPSs have higher response time and better color reproduction NOT FOR GAMING! If both screens had equal response time and each had its advantages, IPS would be a no-brainer. As it stands, TN is BETTER for gaming as its RESPONSE TIME is lower than IPS Panels. Many of the above posters have no clue, but I guess this is OCN.
