AMD FirePro V7900 Cooling Problem

Thread Starter
Hello all,

I have an FirePro V7900 workstation card, and as fantastic a card as it is, I'm worried it may have a problem controlling the fan.

No matter how hot it gets or how much work the card is doing it never changes from 36% fan speed. I may try MSi Afterburner, if that will work with this card.

Just wondering if anyone else out there has had any similiar issues with the FirePro line?

Temps are 62C (144F) idle, and approximately 82C (180F) under full load. Should I even be worried about those temps?

Those temps are perfectly fine for the card in use, the reason it's staying at 36% is because it simply doesn't need any more cooling, you can manually set it and the temps will go down but it's a fruitless endevour to be honest since the fan will deteriorate quicker

It just seems weird that my CPU temp ranges from 35-60, but my GPU is 60-80. If you say its fine though then that's good and I'm happy smile.gif

Yes, GPU's do tend to get hotter and they are infact designed to get that hot.

Take a normal i7 processor, it will burn at around 95, however a number of GPU's today can hit 100c without too much of a problem.

I'm not sure about the FirePro's fan profile, but the desktop equivalent doesn't start ramping up fan speed till around ~90C

I give it a blow out with some compressed air every so often, but I can't say I've noticed the difference much. Going to be selling it soon for an upgrade, so I'll give it a proper clean then.
