I got my Amd Phenom x4 960t (Edit) Overclocking it now! - Page 11

Failed.
It doesnt boot into windows.

Maybe try smaller steps.

Increasing Bus speed shows instable clock anything above 215
Also for multiplier not going stable above 18.0x

I havent touched any Northbridge settings until now..... But dont know the marges i can fiddle with, what is max Voltage I can use for Northbridge?

Should i increase Northbridge voltage?
And the Multiplier should stay below 2000Mhz i assume ?

Not sure about Busspeed (Cpu Frequency)
This has some connection with my RAM memory right?
My Ram is 1333mhz DDR3 XMS from Corsair.

Oke i got into windows by just decreasing the Busspeed from 250 to 240

The rest of the settings i did not change,

{EDIT{

Also Prime95 says 4th Core gives error and stopped....

I dont know what i should increase or decrease now?

check out this screenie of CPUZ . . .

the HT Link may be labeled as NB in BIOS and NB Freq to CPU/NB. It is confusing but you'll figure it out.

OKe, i see those are nice settings.
But they dont work for me... different Mobo right?

Currently i am trying to decrease Bus speed to get stable stress test for at least 5 mins.....

Im stil lost on what about the Northbridge Vcore and Multi.
They have the same rules as the CPu?

Multiplier to increase , clock speed.
And increase Vcore untill stable?
If so what is max Voltage i can go towards 1.4V also?

Ps. Also that screenshot doesnt show what voltage and multiplier your Northbridge is at ^^
And i dont know or use that cinebench program :O!

They have the same rules as the CPu?

HT Link in CPUZ (NB) should be set at 2000MHz and its vcore at default or auto.

NB Frequency in CPUZ (CPU/NB) will go up based on the your multiplier. Set its vcore to 1.35 or 1.375v.

Multiplier to increase , clock speed.
And increase Vcore untill stable?
If so what is max Voltage i can go towards 1.4V also?

at 4GHz , i would not go higher than CPU vcore of 1.47v.

Ps. Also that screenshot doesnt show what voltage and multiplier your Northbridge is at ^^
And i dont know or use that cinebench program :O!

And yes, different mobos will behave differently but not much. i'll be back later to check your progress or lack thereof. take your time and do not stress too much.

increase in cpu/nb will help increase bandwidth of your memory. To increase speed over stock you will have to increase volts as well. 1.4 volts on this is max. I dont think you will need more than 1.2-1.25 to achieve 2600-2800mhz cpu/nb. This as well as fsb is dependent on your memory. If you have poor memory you will have stability issues triying to increase. I'm in the middle of installing new os on ssd , or I'd pull bios info on my other comp, which is running 1600T. After install I'll sent some screenies of a oc that should work. And like rdr09 said, " Take your time" I'll send a link on good oc guide to help make sense.

Barbeceausaus, your 1333Mhz (generic? 9-9-9?) memory may be holding your bus clock ability back because of generally low binning patterns common across all generic memory kits (thus low OC expectations). The best bus clock flexibility is had with a DDR3-1600 performance kit or better. Look for what your RAM speed is running at (calculate it: bus clock x RAM multiplier) when you choose your bus clock Mhz.

Oke so i have been pushing my Bus speed and i think i found the limit of that wink.gif

Results:

Cpu Clock 3840Mhz
Bus speed 240
Cpu multiplier x16.0
Cpu Voltage 1.4250V
NB Multiplier x8.0 1920Mhz
NB Voltage 1.3750V

Stress test for about 2 hours seems stable for short term (I save settings for later 24hour stress test)

Alright , good to know i wil look into that. Was also thinking of upgrading Ram for this purpose rolleyes.gif

I think my Motherboard supports up to DDR3-1800Mhz .
Wil look into that in the near future wink.gif For now il just go with what i currently have.thumb.gif

3.8 is a good start. familiarize yourself with your bios more. i've seen members reach past 4 even as hex with am2+ boards and ddr2 rams. keep at it. its 4 or never. just kidding.

hardly any difference between 38 and 40 in performance. intel may get to windows faster but our amd opens files faster. secret between you and me. cheers.gif
