Monitor Advice for Gaming - Samsung S23A700D for gaming even If I don't need the 3D ?

Hello All,

I am need of a new monitor. I been reading quite a few topics and it has helped in the direction of what monitor I should look at. It seems quite a few people are really impressed with the Samsung S23A700D for monitors in the 23 inch range.

I mainly will be using the monitor for gaming, watching videos i have downloaded, and surfing. I would really like to try a true 120hz monitor.

I don't ever plan to watch 3D movies on my monitor,so am I stuck buying a S23A700D even though I don't plan on watching 3D movies etc?? I feel like its kind of a waste to buy if don't plan on using 3D.

If there are other very good monitors that are 120hz and is about on par with the 700D, please let me know. I would like to stay well below the 279.99 price point that they are selling this Samsung for.

Thank you all in advance.

Not everyone enjoys 3D Vision gaming or watching 3D Vision blu-ray 3D movies but still enjoy the other aspects that 120 Hz brings to the table.

A 120 Hz monitor makes for a very crisp gaming computer. Regular blu-ray movies are incredibly beautiful to watch. You'll even notice a slight difference with a bit more fluidity in normal Windows usage.

Each 120 Hz monitor works well with either Nvidia or AMD but not both. (Nvidia hack excluded) The Samsung S23A700D is AMD sponsored HD3D monitor. AMD achieves 3D through 3rd party software usually supplied with the monitor and a 2D to 3D Conversion trick rather than a hardware level of 3D Vision as Nvidia.

I can point you to other monitors but the Samsung S23A700D is a good monitor as reviews seem to suggest and will allow you to have a 120 Hz monitor, inexpensive and view 3D with your AMD 6950 card.

Even if you choose to one day put an Nvidia card in your system you still can enjoy the 120 Hz benefits. thumb.gif

The Samsung S23A700D is a glossy screen. It reflects lighting or sunlight behind you like a mirror. In time some originally bothered by the distraction say they got used to looking past the reflections. I guess it depends on the current location of your computer.

Even if you didn't use the 3D aspects of the 120 Hz I wouldn't feel bad one bit if I were you. Whether you use it or not it's up to you but with your current AMD 6950 you can enjoy 3D movies if you like and it's an open option. smile.gif

I have the 750D (basically the same)...will NEVER use 3D...and it's totally worth it. Best 120hz monitor imo. Besides 700D, you might want to check up on IPS monitors, unless you have already disregarded them.

I have the S27950D and I love it. I didn't buy it for the 3D (which is mediocre judging by the reviews I've read), but for the 120hz refresh rate, glossy screen, and size. I'm assuming the image quality will be the same between these two screens so I know you'll be happy with it. Just coming from an LED backlit Asus that had a matte screen I notice a distinct difference.
