Song recognition for Windows 7?

Hi guys.
I've strained my Google skills on this one, so I'm turning to a community that has proven helpful to me numerous times... the awesome guys at OCN! thumb.gif
Enough with the flattering, let's get on with it.

I need some software that works kind of like TrackID for Sony Ericsson phones, but for Windows 7. I've found a lot of freeware compatible with Windows2000 and XP, but nothing for Windows 7. I'm confused as to why people have stopped making these programmes for Windows since XP?

How it should work:
I record some of the music currently played on my PC (from a media programme like VLC), and the program then takes that sample and searches some database for the track information: name, artist, album etc...

Thanks in advance. smile.gif

These sort of things are only generally available for mobile phones: Soundhound, Shazam and TrackID are the big 3 that i know of.

If you don't have a smart phone, then I know that -at least- Shazam works on "dumb" phones too. Or at least used to

Sorry to not have answered yet buys, but thanks for the responses.
I do have a smartphone, an iPhone 3G. But I can't update it to a version new enough to support Shazam. Haven't tried out soundhound though.

And sorry #4, I need a program that can listen to some sound and then get the data, it won't work if is from a file.

shazam used to have a phone line you could ring where you ring up, play the music and it would text you the answer.
