@OP

I don't have experience with either but I have a good friend who just bought a G930 and he loves it. He likes the wireless, he likes the battery (lasts him a long time), the audio he says is really quite good, the mic is good, and he says the positional audio is quite good for him (playing CS:GO and BFBC2/BF3, COD:MW2/3/BO).

He tried to get me to buy one he likes it so much.

Well, they're headsets and headsets have awful sound.

Best gaming headphones: http://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATH-AD700-Open-air-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B000CMS0XU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346281316&sr=8-1&keywords=AD700
Best microphone: http://www.amazon.com/Zalman-Zm-Mic1-Sensitivity-Headphone-Microphone/dp/B00029MTMQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1346281336&sr=1-1&keywords=Zalman+clip-on

^ That's not entirely true. Also that microphone is not anywhere near the best by any means. In fact, if more people used unidirectional mics (like for broadcasting) then people would stop using crap mics like those clip-on ones so they could game with surround sound and not drown out their listeners (TS, Vent, Skype) with ambient background noise.

I use a cheap Philips PH62080 'Karaoke' mic because it's unidirectional and I got it for $2 brand new. Miles better sound than that Zalman crap.

In fact the Plantronics Audio 300 is miles better. redface.gif

Anyways.... it's all relative to the individual, preferences and other things. biggrin.gif

So whats the better choice?

You would get better sound quality / surround sound out of pair of headphones + a clip on mic thumb.gif

If you dont already have a sound card I would just keep the 2000. It's gonna sound worse but will be a lot cheaper if you dont need to consider a sound card.

The build quality on the G930's isn't actually that great, the plastic bits above the ear cups crack fairly easily.

The Zalman will still be miles better than a headset microphone except some high end ones like the Sennheiser headsets. Also, it's 3,85$...

Ok, I agree. The Sennheiser headsets have great sounds. Now find headphones in the same price range and compare the sound. smile.gif

The mic on my old Plantronics DSP-500 was oogles (if not miles) better than that Zalman clip mic. redface.gif

I would venture that the mic on the G930 is also superior.

that's not the point. the point is, headset doesn't automatically means crappy sound

the only reason i would consider a wireless Headset / headphones ... is to pair them with the console and Home Theater , and im gonna use them when i dont want to disturb anyone at late nigh , its they only way i would buy a wireless headphone/headset

for a computer , i wont consider a wireless headset/headphone because , most of the time , the computer is less than 10 foot away from someone

i read some reviews about those 2 headset and the Corsair seems the best , google some reviews and read for yourself and then buy it , based on your needs

I have the g930's and the sound quality is very nice. If you are a audiophile then get headphones, but if you are not they will do you just great. They have great battery life, are quality and allow for alot of tweaking for the sound quality, I myself find it easier just to turn up the bass a bit and enjoy because its great out of the box, Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

They are great I cant play BF3 with another head set rolleyes.gif lol. I also leave them in 7.1(Which also is another great feature that is used beautifully on this headset). Good luck on your choice thumb.gif

Anyway, I'm glad I gave everyone the chance to squabble over silly matters. Time to set the record straight.

The Zalman clip-on mic's quality is pretty atrocious as far as mics go, but it's highly recommended because of it's price and because of it's ability to "clip on" a headphone to give that sort of headset/convenient feel. Part of the reason the SQ on mics are bad are because they are omni-directional as stated by Ganja. This means it'll pick up sound from everywhere around the mic. Having uni-directional mics improve the SQ/static by only having sound coming from one direction, your direction. There are other ways to improve SQ as well including lowering the volume of your microphone. People tend to put their mics up to 100 when in actuality having it lower will help kill the static noise.

Headsets have ALWAYS BEEN inferior to to the headphone+separate mic combination in terms of SQ and price. So much is charged for the convenience and feel if a headset as opposed to a headphone+ attachable mic. Gamers are willing to dish out money for it. They're suckers is what it comes down to and companies are making tons of money off their ignorance or need for that convenience.

Find any headset and I'll find you tons of headphone combos that perform better for the price. A headset isn't poor quality by nature. If AKG comes out with a headset that combines a Q701 with a good quality mic tomorrow and only charge 300 dollars you can bet your booty that'll be one of the most recommended headsets ever. Unfortunately people don't do that and I just don't understand why. Beyerdynamic sort of did it with the MMX300, but that sucker is so ridiculously overpriced that I can't ever recommend it to anyone. Sennheiser did it with the PC360s which is basically a Sennhesier HD595. I love recommending the PC360s as it is basically a headphone+mic combo, but in headset form and it looks beautiful.

Everyone that has tried the G930s think they're GREAT!!....until they've tried the 500 other headphones that are better and are like what a WASTE of money!

For 100 dollars you would be better off buying the AKG GHS-1's than either of those two wireless headsets and I don't even recommend the AKG's often if at all. The mic on them is pretty booty.

Wireless headsets be design are inferior to a majority of wired alternatives. Sure it's convenient for you not to have wires, but just know you're sacrificing quality for that convenience.

That said if you don't care about SQ and you really want a headset and you really want it wireless, then get whatever looks best to you. They'll all do what you want: Produce sound.

If you want to argue from there that one will be better than the other for that purpose then I re-introduce you to our argument. That's why we don't recommend headsets. Elaborate enough? No? Read links below.
