Looking for the best 42" LCD for $500.

Thread Starter
Hello guys I've been looking at slickdeals and other deal sites and I'm having trouble getting a good idea of which 42" is the best value right now under $500.

I don't care much about 120hz, more about overall quality of the panel and reliability. Will be playing some madden/forza and watching sports mostly.

Not locked into 42", but thats seems like the sweet spot for my budget and I don't want to get one any smaller.

Any ideas?

The Sharp is good I'd say. I've never owned a Sharp, so I can't say personally how the sound and picture looks.

Here's 2 I found:
-Sanyo 42" Class LED 1080p 60Hz HDTV
-Vizio 42" Class LCD 1080p 60Hz HDTV with Built-In WiFi

I have a Sanyo 46" TV in my living room, and a Vizio 19" LED TV in my bedroom, and both have worked without problems. The Sanyo doesn't have internet apps or anything like that, but the Vizio does, if you like that. You'd have to decide whether the $68 extra would be worth it for the apps and whatever extra features the Vizio has.

Either way, those are my 2 ideas for ya smile.gif.

Sharp is a dead company right now. I wouldn't get Sharp TV's from the reports I've heard of poor capacitors.

I would go with the LG 42LD450 HDTV. Customers have been saying that this is an excellent monitor. They seem to be the best in terms of quality right now.

Excellent color quality and sexy aesthetics.

Or I would wait for a LG 55" OLED TV's which LG is rolling out at the end of this year.

He has a budget of $500; do you honestly believe he is going to spend $9,000+ on a TV? rolleyes.gif

I would look at cheaper name brands (Sony, Samsung, Sharp, LG, Vizio) from a store like Walmart. That way, if the thing dies ($500 doesn't leave a lot of room for high quality), you can just walk in and return it for a new one. Whatever you choose, get an extended warranty. They are generally not that expensive, and after the manufacturers warranty ends, it's more like a "no questions asked" return policy.
