OCZ Vertex 4 VS Samsung 830 - Page 16

I like my m4s. They're about 75% full now so the numbers have gone down a bit but write's were never that great to begin with.

At lower queue depths (real world usage) the 830 is the faster drive, but even then the differences would be difficult to notice outside of a benchmark. I'd take the Samsung for no other reason than their MUCH better customer support. I've owned and still own a few OCZ drives, and the way they tried to pass the blame on the sandforce controller bugs last year really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Shouldn't the random 4k (simple) be relevant for windows? That should make a difference in real word usage, right?

maybe you need the latest firmware? I've never seen write speeds so low

I'm pretty sure it's on the latest. It's pretty full though and they are 64gb drives which have lower writes then the larger drives. I used to just have the one as a boot drive but I was in Microcenter and they had them on sale for 40 bucks so I picked it up and raided them just for the heck of it. It boots windows and loads bf3 maps fast though so I'm happy with it.

It is, which I mentioned, but which would you rather have:

SSD from company KNOWN for bad CS, a bit faster.
SSD from good CS company, a bit slower.

Also the access times are probably lower. Care to do an AS-SSD for me?

jtom320 Sorry I thought it was the vertex 4

Crucial 3 yr warranty vs OCZ V4 5 yr warranty - hence why I bought a V4 on release and have had zero problems with it.

It's not the length; it's the CS team.

This.
I have an M4, I know it is slower than either 830 or V4, but I really don't care. It is still pretty fast, and never gave me any problems. I would never, ever try to time my Win loading times etc...I find it pointless when I know the order of magnitude of improvement over even the fastest HDDs, and how much slower single or RAID HDDs get overtime getting 50-75% or more full (and even worse, how much performance differs for data in the periphery vs. the center of the platters)

Btw, I don't get why ppl whine so much for having to upgrade the firmware...surely if a new release is coming out every month, I would be bored to re-do 150GB of installs etc that currently live inside my SSD, but if you have only minor performance issues, and you do want to do go faster, it is not that terrible - again depending on the complexity of your running system's state. I would surely be vastly better if FW updates would not wipe your drive clean tho...
