Washing Motherboard

Thread Starter
So I've seen some youtube vids and read some old threads about it on this site. I haven't seen any new threads in my search so I wanted to inquire, is this still a viable method of cleaning out cigarette smoke/dust on your motherboard (provided adequate time to dry of course)?

I'd like to wash my sig rig motherboard before I transfer it into my new build.

Not worth the hassle. What if it doesn't start after washing it? Then back to troubleshooting and all.

From what I've read and seen in the videos, this isn't something you complete in a day, most of the people leave it out to dry for up to a week before reinstalling it, some even bake it (I'm not comfortable with that) so I'd leave it out for a week with some fans blowing on it or in the sunlight.

Has anyone done this recently or in the past (the washing method)?

I've washed mobos to get vaseline off, didn't have any issues afterwards. Didn't scrub since hot water was all I needed, left them in a warm room with fans for a few days, as long as they are thoroughly dry all should be well. Just be careful not to physically damage anything on the board while washing.

Just the info I was looking for, I'm completely excited and partially frightened at the same time. Can't wait to try this.
