Laing DDC-1 and DDC-1T Owners Gallery - Page 22

Hi there,

I'm wondering if someone could tell me what the reason is for having the separate molex connectors on the Laing DDC pumps as below:

I've noticed on some other versions of the pump that there is just one 3 pin molex connector with black cables:

I'm assuming the yellow/black cables are for providing the pump with 12V and the blue one is to be able to control the speed of the pump, as you would do with fans? If so, could one remove the 6 pin molex connector and put the yellow/black cables into the 3 pin connector, and then just connect it to one of the chassis fan slots on the motherboard?

Some of the DDC pumps use molex for power and a 3 pin just for the monitoring, so you can plug it into your mobo and see how fast does it spin. Other get the power from the mobo and send the signal back through 3 pin.
I have got both versions smile.gif

Thanks for the reply smile.gif

So it wouldn't be a problem for me to change it to a 3 pin? I have the version with the molex and 3 pin but if possible I would prefer to have just the one connector.

If the 3-pin connector has the other two terminal leads, then yes, you can change to one connector. This is how my Laign DDC-1T pumps are setup. The later retail MCP350 Laing made had the two connectors. This may seem a bit odd to you, but the pump was sold to more than a few diferent markets. The solar recirculation version is basically the pump model you have with the two connectors.

Can DDC pumps be mounted and ran upside down?

Right now I have both of them mounted vertically to the right of my motherboard and they work fine.

Thanks

The answer is a simple NO. However, like most things there are limited "exceptions".

The Corsair Nautilus 500 ran the DDC pumps upside down long as the the rule of never letting the impeller be above the RES fluid. The pump inlet must be connected to the lowest part of the RES and the RES must be within 2-inches joining to the pump. This allows the impeller to be in constant fluid at all times. Otherwise the impeller will drag/scrap against the pump top and wearout in a matter of weeks.

I was wondering, how bad is it if I put the pump in the bottom 5.25" bay? I know as a general rule you should always have the pump below the res but how much of a problem would it be and would it really put that much strain on the pump?
