Hi guys.

Here is my contribution for thread.

http://www.pohrani.com/?40/nu/3yHqOOBZ/dsc2706-small.jpg

And this is how my pump sound. I can't stand that sound, any suggestions?

Increase your volume, and you will hear that awful sound, like blender or something. :/

The only good solution I found was to replace it with a swiftech mcp35x. I tried everything that this forum and bmaverick suggested including lubricating the pump, making sure that it wasn't resonating with the part of the case it was mounted to, after market top, re-positioning the pump/res, etc. If you don't have the money for a new pump, I was able to basically silence it by wrapping it in a micro fiber towel and stuffing it into a padded envelope. It looked terrible, and probably wasn't great for the pump's temperatures, but it worked more or less.

You're not alone with this problem, but there really isn't a fix for it other than replacing the pump, at least I haven't found one anyway.

The blender noise is caused by the vortex swirling of the pump's inlet from the very large RES feeding it. Martin has done a study on this with a few solutions to overcome the problem. One is to place a diverter tube to stop the swirling. Swiftech uses an open-cell foam pad. Both drop the blender noise greatly. The MCP35X just allows you to turn the pump speed (and flow) way down to stop the blender rushing noise. What good is that if the flow has been limited?

So if I reduce my 11 mm feed tube from res to pump I will get lower noise?
I can change pump, but what if I get that sound even after I change pump.

Nope, reducing the feed from the RES to the pump will not reduce the noise.

What I stated prior deals with the taller RES tanks that mount directly to the top of the pump. When the impeller starts to spin, it creates a vortex swirl much like a kitchen blender. This also will sound like a kitchen blender.

Now, to reduce or remove that kitchen blender, a tube or one cut length wise and placed into the RES to just sit there will distort the vortex swirling and therefore no more kitchen blender noise.

Even though Martin shows the DDC-35X, the DDC-1 series and DDC-3 series can do the same similar things to remove the kitchen blender noise.

From Martin's site ...
http://martinsliquidlab.org/2011/02/25/swiftech-mcp-35x-reservoir
"With the sponge not working as well as I hoped, I set out to look at the alternatives. I found that the reservoir works perfectly using a top down inlet plus down tube configuration. This is extremely easy to build, all you need is an extra barb and about 3″ of tubing. Even better would be some sort of clear rigid tube, you just need something to protrude down through the surface of the water in the reservoir and point at the pump inlet. I tested with a piece of 1/2″ x 3/4″ tubing as I assumed that would be readily available by most users."

That is interesting what have you written there, but I have a similar setup and never have had a problem with the pump making any extensive noise...?

I tried this solution with tube, still have sound. Tried cut piece of acrylic and put into reservoir to separate it into two sides, and pump still makes this sound. I even tried combine tube and acrylic, unfortunately it's not working. I have no idea what to do.

Did a DIYINHK Toshiba PCB swap today on one of my DDC-1Ts. Stock it was just way too loud to be used in the living room. And it made horrible noises when I dropped voltage to the pump. However now w/ the new PCB it slows down like a champ.

Very nice and clean work on the PCB mod.

Mine sounded similar until I decoupled them and closed up my case. Can't hear them at all now.

They are sitting on a silicone cell phone sleeve btw.
