Anyone willing to help a noob?

Yes I'm new to overclocking and yes I read the guide. I would like maybe if someone would be willing to help me overclock my rig? Here is my set up. I'm just not to keen on voltages and stuff and really don't want to ruin my new machine. Thank you in advance.

Core 2 Duo E6600
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 F6
Thermaltake Big Typhoon heatsink
Supertalent 2 x 1gigs DDR2 800 timing is 4-4-3-8 recommanded voltage 2.2v
eVGA 7800GTX
Seasonic S-12 600w PS

Have you started to OC yet? Lock the PCI bus speeds and raise the fsb by 10mhz and boot to windows, keep raising by about 5mhz and keep going untill you cant get to windows then back off to where you were last, raise voltage a notch, and go do some stress testing.

You will see quickly that its very simple and easy to do!

Nice rig! AND you filled out your profile!!! You have already surpassed NOOB status.

I've never used the DS3. But you can get good general info here:

http://www.overclock.net/new-members...mpilation.html

Take a look at the Intel overclocking guide.

Just beware that the temps on the Conroe's can only be accurately measured by downloading Intel's TAT program. Keep the temps below 50c if you can at full loads.

Ok I started to play around I am at 3.15 and memory is at 850 in Bios. At idle I my Temp is 32C and if I use TAT to do a 100% load on both CPUs it will goto 54C. Now I have not touched anything except the FSB settings should I play with any other settings? Oh yeah this is a brand new today just put it together maybe a hour ago. Won't I see better Temps once my Artic silver is used for a few hours? Plus everything looks stable no crashes and all drivers load fast.

FSB is your "main" setting to change.

Your temps may drop after the AS5 fully sets, but that can take a lot longer than a few hours - and may not really drop much at all.

Looks like you are on your way! A good program to use is SuperPI, or Prime95 for stress testing. User friendly and great programs. Good luck!!!11

you want to keep your mem freq at half the fsb that will alow higher ocing, its a ration thing, fsb is a quad data rate and ram is a dual data rate, for example, at stock your fsb should be 1066 and your ram should be 533
