USB ports messing up keyboard?

Thread Starter
Sometimes if i move the usb cable too much on my keyboard it will stop working or start registering completely wrong keys (ex. press k and it will press esc instead) also my mouse will keep losing power consistently when this happens. Is there something wrong with my usb ports?

Check if your motherboard is shorting. There's a chance.

Also, if you're not already using a proper power cable with a 3rd grounding pin, you should start doing that now.

I had a customer fry his entire system because of some weird reason that he wouldn't use the 3 pin power cable.

How would i check if my mobo is shorting? Also i do use a 3pin grounding cable but it is plugged into an old power bar. When the usb ports stop working i have to wiggle them a bit or restart the computer to get them to work. I do not use an I/O shield BTW.

Try with an I/O shield? Maybe the USB ports are starting to unsolder because of the pressure.

I've seen this twice.
Both times we moved the USB as far away from the network jack as possible and the problem cleared up.

Spliterize may also be correct with the solder points starting to break.

Could also be the wires inside the cord have become damaged, try the keyboard on another computer and wiggle the connection to see if keyboard flakes out.

Doesnt have to do anything with the cord as i just got the keyboard and the previous one did the same when it got messed up, but it didnt start registering keystroes wrong liek this one it just didnt work. Is there anyway if fixing the solder points ( without resoldering)?

Sometimes you can wedge a small thin piece of plastic or wrapped up tape between the board and the usb plug. This will put more pressure on the joints and should make the connection more solid. Mind you, this will only buy you some time. You will still need to re-solder the connections or switch to a different set of USB ports (use the internal headers and a backplate perhaps)

You could bake it.

And no I am not trolling. You can do it with à GPU, i assume that it would work with a mobo.
