Having said that, flying as a hobby is only reasonable on a normal salary if you have the land for a grass strip and can maintain your own home built (experimental) class airplane.
I think the OP did a great job thumb.gif It's no more a waste of money than somebody putting a ton of money into their car... of which you not get the majority back.

I can't count how many times I've seen friends and acquaintances dump 10-20k in a vehicle and felt like I was the one getting kicked in the balls just by watching it happen.
I'm with you, especially when its their only car, which is common among younger people. Spend tons on parts, throw them into your car that the bank still owns, and watch its value plummet after having spent money on it. You actually lose more money than you spent on parts, and of course thats not counting labor or towing (it will happen at some point). Its worth it with planning towards a goal that you can enjoy, such as a track toy done right (as well as with any other hobby, and this thread shows that). But the majority of "modified cars" are ticket-magnets for people in their early 20s and a lot of them look tacky.

All the hobbies done right have a clear goal, and it shows. Not sure how I started rambling about this but I think its clear I need to go to bed. Cheers OP, great work, and hope your client gets well soon. thumb.gif

Folks, I regret to inform you the client never made it out of the hospital. I just got the call today he passed. I am sad as I was only able to visit him 1x in the hospital. I will post more as I know. Really sad moment for me as I worked with him for 7 years and had him over for dinner many times hearing all his old stories.

Thank you all for the kind words! I will try and finish the build in his memory (it is literally practically done) but have no place for it personally. It will most likely be parted out shortly afterwards unless a buyer comes along. Sad frown.gif

Final decisions will come after the service. It is delayed trying to get him in Arlington National Cemetery.
