That's a hella of a lot of pixels too be pushing at atleast 60 times a seconds for any card. I'd get 2 of these and try it, if it feels enough and right, your good too go, however if it feel juddery or under performed (and you still have the budget) just add another one and call it a day.

An earlier poster said that this card (Toxic) doesn't support outputs on all 5 connections, two are 'shared'. The lesser Lightning series does though, but at half the VRAM. Trying to find supporting documentation on this. Sadly this is something that can only be tested well after build and burn in so I need to know beforehand frown.gif

A thought: Call Sapphire and ask. They should know more about the card than a bunch of random people on the internet.

Only their email is listed on the website for the US, but after emailing them they usually give me a number to call them at. I don't have it handy right now so try shooting them a line at tech@althonmicro.com

Edit: Also with the way Eyefinity works I don't think it'll be a problem if two of the ports are shared. You can split up the displays any way you like, so as long as FSX would allow you to, say, have both the center and the right window on the same screen, eyefinity will split that shared image on those two screens with a little tweaking for bezel compensation and what not and allow the rest as independent displays.

Anybody out there with 5 or 6 monitors who can show pictures of how this works? I've only got two right now, rather suboptimal for this demonstration.

I called Sapphire and spoke with them. It is the single link DVI and the HDMI that are shared frown.gif

Their suggestion is to go with a 7750 Flex series card that has 2 DP's (all 3 other ports are active for eyefinity) or get a splitter / expander:

Vid-2x DisplayPort Edition

I am a little nervous about using that expander as I am worried about stuttering in sync. I will NOT be downgrading to the 7750!

At this point I could even just do 3 lighting's in crossfire but not sure as to how the reviews pan on that on a z77 board. Main concern is the memory usage as previously posted tongue.gif

That and the lightnings have a reputation for either being really good cards or being utter crap. If you nabbed 3 you'd have a good chance of getting a bad card.

Are the lightnings only bad for overclocking? You don't need to overclock your GPU when you have 3 6GB 7970s. And even if you wanted to it wouldn't be a good idea because when no two will clock exactly the same.

No, a lot of people are having issues with the lightnings just dying after a few months, or the fans going out, or overheating, etc... Even when they keep them set at stock.

Sooooo, I will be trying the Toxics with the Vid-2x. The person I spoke with (@ Sapphire) said it will work, but on research I see these being used instead of eyefinity all on card. Hope they work together, I have an email in to them asking the same thing again so I can at least get a paper trail going if something goes wrong tongue.gif

Going to update the parts list later today, will be ordering everything Monday. Whew. This has been at least 1.5 years in the making! Final stretch!
