Prepping Windows for an AMD->Intel transition

New motherboard, new CPU. Everything else is the same.

Yes yes I know. "Just reinstall", etc. Im prepared to do so, but I also plan on trying to get this to work without it. So save the criticism please thumb.gif

I started off with the obvious and reverted my SATA drivers to generic. Other than that, I'm not sure what else may be lurking beneath the surface that is within my control. Any thoughts?

Don't do it. Just reinstall over the existing partition and it will move EVERYTHING on the old installation to a folder on the root of the drive called "Windows.old". You can see if it just boots but if you had it set to AHCI on the AMD platform I'm pretty sure there is no easy way to get it to boot on Intel. If you had it set to IDE/Legacy mode on the SATA controller, it might work if you set Intel to IDE/Legacy mode but you will want AHCI anyway. So really don't do it, take the extra time and do it properly.

No one found this thread except for Dopa.

But yea, I wouldn't take the shortcut. Take your time now and you won't have to worry about later

Back off the user data and just reinstall. Saves you a lot of hassle later. Trust me, best thing to do.

Then once you do that, make an image of your windows once you get everything the way you want it. Makes restoring things MUCh easier.

Like I said, I already did it and it worked flawlessly. Thanks for the advice that explicitly disregards the one thing I asked people not to do.
