My first OC chip was a 955BE.I coupled it with a ASUS M4A79T-Deluxe and had a lot of fun. These ASUS boards I speak of are a little old but they do not burn up and can be had for 70.00 on the marketplace (when you get rep and can buy). Easy 4.0GHz (but with more volts)

EDIT: I think it is really neat that people keep rocking the 955,it is a real classic (well at least to me).

well i've been able to overclock to 4.3ghz but after a while programs start to crash, i was hoping that you had some experience overclocking this exact motherboard so i could get a rough estimate on max frequency's since my temps for the cpu never pass 50

Myself, I do not consider the 955 to be a 4.0GHz (and above) daily driver. The reason I say this is because they tend to need volts (1.55 and above) to achieve stability and this makes a lot of heat. You are staying cool because you are using low voltage (but show instability beause of it). When folding on the 955 I always limited myself to 3.8GHz as I was at it 24/7 and temps would go up (I was on custom water).

What temperatures were you seeing on full load?
I have a Rasa Kit inside my computer right now and when I get a new mobo, I'll definitely want my 955 to be running 4GHz.

955s as a general rule are to be clocked around 3.9-ish day to day..i had one..then they released the 965..I got that,too..it was good for 4.1-ish

LOL. I do 4ghz 24x7 stock voltage 31c idle / 60c max with a Hyper 212+. 4.2ghz @ 1.575v but I only do that for gaming and benching. If you have a rev C 955, 4ghz should be mandatory assuming your mobo isn't a total POS (which apparently it is). Maybe you can rig up a fan to get some airflow on the VRM.... or if you are industrious hack up some old heatsinks with a saw and make yourself some vrm heatsinks.

If you do decide to get a new motherboard, make damn sure it's AM3+ or you are SOL for upgrades.
