Upgrade advice...

Thread Starter
The time for me to upgrade is here I think. Here is the system I am looking at putting together:

COOLER MASTER RC-830 Stacker
EVGA 122-CK-NF68 nVIDIA nFORCE 680I SLI CHIPSET ATX
E6600
THERMALTAKE W0103RU TOUGH 600W ATX 12V
2xWD 160GB 1600YS SATA RAID 16MB 7200RPM
EVGA 640-P2-N821-AR GF8800GTS 640MB DDR3 PCI-Express
CORSAIR TWIN2X2048-5400C4 2GB KIT (1GB x 2) PC25400 675MHZ MATCHED PAIR 4-4-4-12 240-PIN DDR2 DIMM

Total Mwave price (great place to shop unless you guys know of better prices) is $1858 including shipping.

Pick it apart and tell me where you think I have gone wrong. My goals for this system are as such:

Eventually SLI
Eventually water cooling the CPU and possibly VGA/Northbridge
OC CPU to stable 4.x (with AIR if at all possible)

My concerns are that I am probably paying too much for the 8800 due to it's newness and/or should I be spending the extra $$$ for the GTX??

Also, this is the only 680i MB so I am paying a premium AND it's SLI only so I am stuck with Nvidia for dual cards aren't I??

Help me out here folks. I normaly buy further down the technology/price curve and this is the first rig I have built expressedly for OC'ing! Thanks.

Get these over the Corsair

Crucial Technology $230

I'd pick another PSU instead of the Thermaltake

And yes, you're stuck with Nvidia for dual cards if you go with 680i

1 - Why 2 hard drives? RAID? If so, ditch them and go with a single good 320Gb drive.

2 - If you plan to OC anyway, you could save some money going with the 6400 rather than the 6600. You lose some cache, but you save some cash

3 - The 8000 series cards are expensive right now being new, but if you want cutting edge, go for it. Obviously the GTX will offer better performance, and it's ultimately up to you if the price difference is warranted.

I would get that OCZ 700 watt PSU. A lot of people seem to have it and are happy with it.

OCZ GameXStream 700W is the way to go. Snag it on zipzoomfly...it's a few dollars cheaper.

I run the Corsair XMS2. Good stuff IMO. Check out this article on anandtech.
