CM Storm Trigger Experiences + PS/2 Compatibility

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I've had a Ducky Shine w MX Blues on pre-order but am now considering getting myself a CM Storm Trigger with MX Blues instead. After all, it offers pretty much the same features and is about $30 cheaper.

I was wondering if anyone has gotten themselves a Trigger and how their experience has been with them.

Also, I am looking to buy a USB - PS/2 adaptor and was wondering if that disables backlighting and/or media keys? I'd like to enable NKRO but I'm not sure if that works when using a PS/2 adaptor.

I know this post might be a bit long winded but hopefully there's enough info there to help out. smile.gif

PS. I will be purchasing from this store page. tongue.gif

I do not own a Trigger but can tell you that it is not compatible with PS/2, it will only work over USB. Don't worry about PS/2 and NKRO though, as there really is no practical reason why 6KRO would be insufficient.

I recently got a Trigger and am very pleased with it. Mine has black switches.
It is a very solid board and typing has been a pleasure, i find myself less copy pasting and more typing the same things ;-).
It is my first mechanical so i can't compare to other boards.
The macro keys are nice to have and i use them in my day to day work and actually not for gaming.
And like the above post says, why would you need more than 6KRO?

I've had mine for 4 weeks now I believe. Sold, solid, solid. Whatever the keycaps are coated with, it's amazing. Detachable wrist-rest is also a plus. I can just simply describe it as solid.

Sweet, sounds like a pretty good board! Hopefully it's not too big, especially with the wrist rest. smile.gif

I was asking about NKRO because I usually play Street Fighter with a mate on emulator lol. : P

So if I use the adaptor nothing will work? I've read about PS/2's superiority over USB, especially in terms of it being interrupt based which would definitely help while gaming.

I couldn't tell you what exactly will happen if you try a PS/2 adapter but I know that it's made for USB only use.

Regarding your Street Fighter play, are you doing two players on a single keyboard or separate? If it's the former, that sounds like one of the only situations where NKRO may be an advantage. Not sure which edition of the game you're playing but it would seem that holding down multiple buttons after performing a throw or EX/super/ultra can potentially prevent the opponent from teching or countering with their own EX/super/ultra. It's hard to say but if you don't have any problems with your current keyboard, I can't imagine that you would have any with the Trigger.

As a fellow Street Fighter player, I can't imagine how you would manage anyone but a charge character on a keyboard. Arcade stick is the only way to go!

I have decided to order the Quickfire Pro instead. It's cheaper and actually lights up the whole WASD are and not just the WASD keys themselves. tongue.gif

Also, I read in one of the reviews that they had received a USB-PS/2 adaptor with the box, though I guess it's not really relevant since you can change the polling rate of the keyboard from 8ms (125hz) - 1ms (1000hz).

Haha, true true. It certainly isn't an ideal experience but since we play classics like the X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Alpha 2 and MvC 1 randomly, we can't really justify purchasing proper arcade sticks. Also, I have a PS3 so I won't be able to use that stick with my PC without setting up dodgy drivers. If I had a 360 on the other hand... rolleyes.gif

I have a trigger with red switches and i love it. Mainly when the product doesn't come with a usb to ps2 adapter means that it won't work. The reason for this is that the keyboard has an built in memory chip and backlight. PS2 cannot provide enough power to light up the LED lights.

You must have read that in the OCN Mechanical Keyboard Guide.

Yeah, that is woefully out of date.
