Free To Play
Release Date  Q4 2012 or Q1 2013

A True MMOFPS
http://www.planetside2.com/

Key Features
Quote:
BATTLE FOR TERRITORIES & RESOURCES: The core gameplay of PlanetSide 2 is about holding key territories and controlling valuable resources. Each battleground holds valuable resources and key positions, and the empire that can conquer (and manage to hold) these territories will be rewarded with fuel bonuses, ammo bonuses, tech bonuses, and more.Persistence: In Planetside 2 battles will last longer than a match timer. Battles will last for days or weeks, and finally taking control of the base means it’s yours until someone can take it back. Working strategically as a team to capture key tactical positions such as power plants and ammo depots will have long-lasting effects that can shift the tide of battle.

ENORMOUS MAPS: PlanetSide 2 will launch with several continent maps; every inch of which will be contestable space. With the new territorial control meta-game, landmass will have intrinsic value even without notable installations or major features.

FREE-FORM CLASS-BASED SYSTEM: Players will be able to unlock diverse combat roles by advancing through the skill tree, including several classic roles from PlanetSide. As players unlock new roles, they will be able to switch between them at will.

MISSION SYSTEM: Both SOE and players will be able to drive content, easing new players into the game and allowing veterans to feed content to players.

SKILL TREES: Players will be able to build their soldier to match their play-style, or to match the needs of their squad, outfit or empire. Each combat role, vehicle and weapon will have extensive skill trees. These cert trees will allow players to grow characters laterally, unlocking weapons, attachments, equipment, specialized skills, and more

.OUTFITS: Outfits (guilds) will also be able to customize themselves – allowing outfits to have their own identity, reputation and role in the ongoing war.

WEAPONS: Players will be able to access more than 20 basic weapons, which can be customized to players’ preference or purpose.

VEHICLES: More than 10 vehicles with two unique vehicles per empire. Players will be able to customize each vehicle, unlocking new skills and featuresVivox Integration: Players will be able to communicate with their squads both through keyboard and voice chat.

Factions
3 Different Factions each with there own playstyles
Quote:
MASSIVE WARFARE: Battles will take place not between dozens of troops, but hundreds; with air and ground vehicles slugging it out alongside squads of troops. Whether in open fields, tightly-packed urban centers or enormous structures, winning will require strategic teamwork and a quick trigger finger in the massive battles.

TERRAN REPUBLIC – With a militaristic government, the Terran Republic uses its Imperial authoritarian might to impel humanity to peaceful coexistence through any means necessary.

NEW CONGLOMERATE – A loosely connected group of rebel factions and idealistic freedom fighters, the New Conglomerate fights against the hegemony of the Terran.

VANU SOVEREIGNTY – A technocratic faction that believes humanity can only evolve by rediscovering and tapping the lost technology of the Vanu.

Esamir Revealed
http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/10/04/soe-announces-esamir-planetside-2s-new-cold-continent/
Quote:
Indar, the existing continent, boasts a wide range of environments and an abundance of player facilities ripe for the taking. Players will find canyons, forests, a desert and a variety of strategic situations designed with specific solutions in mind. Esamir, the new continent, is similar, but has a more unified theme of frozen tundra and expansive spaces. The map is barren and open, with roughly half the number of player structures than Indar in a similar amount of space. It's a continent that provides players with long travel times and large areas in which to move instead of the fast-paced, constant chaos fights that unfold on Indar.

There are more subtle differences between the maps that players may not notice until they actually hop into a game. Indar has a completely different day and night cycle from Esamir (which in turn requires different gear loadouts), due to the two continents being located on different parts of the planet. Snow and ice are more than aesthetic -- they actually affect the way vehicles handle and perform. The space feels more vast, with a longer draw distance and a lot more exposure.

I absolutely love the game, has plenty of things bf3 lacked squad voip and proxmity voip are awesome if used, graphics are very good not bf3 quality but still awesome. The best part of the game is has to be the atmosphere, which few mp games provide, it really feels like a huge ongoing battle, I remember at one point me and a few guys defended a facility for the whole ingame night from waves of dudes, then come early morning i got myself a tank and joined up with a huge tank convoy launching a counterattack, it was epic and the lighting for it was incredible.

Somethings I didn't like, horrid animations; it kind of looks like all the soldiers are running around with a serious case of club foot as when they run their feet are at awkward angles, it just looks weird. Also the gunplay is not very good, seems sometimes it takes way too long to kill someone, getting even 2 kills with the same clip seems impossible. Also despite squad voip and proxmity voip nobody even uses it, I remember once I was actually talking with randoms trying to coordinate with each other and the only person that bothered to say something told me to just shut up and play the game. This is why I didn't really care there was no squad voip in bf3 cause nobody uses it. I cannot wait to see how this game plays out when huge guilds get a hold of it and there are coordinated assaults/defenses. Most of the time in the beta right now everyone is kind of running around like headless chickens.

I am really looking forward to this game and was put off by it being Free to Play, however the game is simply awesome and blows away many games that charge money. If the devs stick to paid content being soley customization and not pay to win and fix their problems, this game will be the new king of large scale fps.

The most recent builds are leaps and bounds above the technical test builds (as would be assumed). I am enjoying the game now that they have worked a lot of the problems out. There are definitely quite a few awe-inspiring moments to be had in this game. And I think the particle effects are quite amazing. The textures really need help, but that's hopefully due to this being a beta build. I love seeing groups of vehicles moving together and all the tracers and things flying at night. The sound is very good as well; it really gives you a feel of being in a massive battle.

I got mine from a friend that got it from their Twitter a while back. You should also get one if you were a PS1 player, and a PC magazine gave out a bunch as well I believe.
