Need help to over clock i7 3930k/ CPU Core voltage issue

Dear friends,

I using I7 3930k with gigabyte GA X79 UD3 motherboard.use air cooling as cooler master hyper evo 212.
My objective is to get stable OC at 4.4 Ghz. So what I did is bump cpu multiplier to 44 and let all other settings default (which means AUTO).under that condition when I check CPU core voltage using CPUz it was 1.284Vand after I stress my cpu (using AIDA64) it was 1.246V.

But to stress my system when I use prime 95 my system crash just after few minutes.

So I bump my CPU core voltage to 1.35v manually and let core multiplier to 44 and all the other settings kept AUTO.
After that when I check CPU core voltage using CPUz it was 1.350V but after I stress my cpu (using AIDA64) it was 1.246V.Again when I use prime 95 my system crash just after few minutes.

1. Please clarify me why cpu core voltage same, under stress, in this two situations?

2. Why CPU z shows me lower cpu core voltage under stress situation?

3. Please give me your suggestions to get stable OC?

Thanks in advanced,
deepal

NOTE: memory i use is 1600Mhz corsire vengence 4GB *4,timing 9/9/24

With your cooler you can't go that much high! Be happy with 4.2 GHz or change cooler.

Dear KOPE,

Thanks for your quick responce.
1. When wrting my question i made mistake in voltage values and now it is corrected.
2. As per My understanding using better air cooler(like cooler master 212) we can go with 4.4 or even 4.5 .

Any away thanks,

Any away thanks,

Hyper 212 is an ok cooler, not a good one. And 3930k runs VERY hot when overclocked.

If you want the same voltage at idle and load you would have to use LLC: 6 and Manual Voltage
A CPU's voltage will typically drop down when stressed, this is called VDROOP. LLC (Load Line Calibration) will help to stabilize voltage.

Keep temps under 80c when stress testing.

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT go over 1.2v on VCCSA and VTT or your CPU will degrade. My motherboard actually sets these to 1.2v if I leave them on auto so I recommend you set both to 1.1v for now.

Good luck

CM 212 is an excellent cooler and hi can handle every CPU on the earth except I7 39xx ! In ideal conditions your best hope is 4.3 GHz. If you are in plan to go for higher clock you have to rise your money for cooler.

Sorry i forgot to share with you my experiences with that cooler. Probably that you will not be able to get stability for voltages over 1.25V for VCore. For the beginning try 1.2V and 4.2GHz and those advice's from Scorpion667 are good!

Some 3930k's can do up to 4.3Ghz on stock voltage (i.e not auto but manually setting the stock voltage).

I would recommend trying 4.4Ghz at 1.275v (as per Kope's voltage recommendation based on your cooler) and see if that passes Prime95. Remember to use LLC also else voltage will drop under load

The CPU is so powerful that it is hard to notice a difference between 4.1Ghz and 4.8Ghz for most games and daily tasks, in my honest opinion.
I ran 4.1Ghz for 3 weeks undervolted and everything ran fast and smooth.

Also, it's absolutely incredible the ammount of heat the chip can dump into a room. I once left it running Prime95 blend at 90% of memory and left my house for 2 hours, came back and my room's ambient temps went up 4c! Given AC was off and no air circulation but still it was only 2 hours. So it's good to leave a window open or have AC on with this monster =D
