Yeah but then the pixel density is much lower.
True dat however you can either choose between pixel density and space. Can you do that with the rMBP?

EDIT: I've just realized the stupidity of that statement. You have both space and pixel density in the rMBP doh.gif

No no, I meant the Tegra 3 version has more effects than the non-Tegra 3 version. The iOS app is the same as the Tegra 3 version afaik.
Actually AnandTech would like to disagree.

But you still end up with a smartphone app. With an iPad app you know it's been made to work with the iPad, and in some cases the iPad specific version has a completely different UI than the iPhone. Something more suitable for a tablet.
That is true, but it's also true in Android. The only app that i know that sells both a phone and a tablet app on the market is Swiftkey.

I'd say iOS blows Android out of the water. All that iOS lacks is the customisation, and personally I'm not interested in any of that at all.
Customization is what makes an OS yours. Unless you jailbreak you can't change how iOS looks, for example. For Android you just have to download a launcher app.
Please elaborate in all the other things that re better on iOS over Android.

3. Innovation also means "Make changes in something established, esp. by introducing new methods, ideas, or products." Making a tablet that runs on mobile technology and customized OS tailored around a touchscreen is different than those crap Windows tablets existing prior to the iPad was doing something new and a new idea. The same applies to the iPhone as well IMO. Anyone remember the BlackBerry Storm which tried to bandaid fix the BB OS to work with a touch screen? It failed horribly. Same with the iPhone 4 and iPad 3rd Gen that forced high quality displays to be mainstream. I have a feeling the new MacBook Pro Retina will do the same thing as well. All of this is innovation whether or not haters choose to admit it or not. thumb.gif

cuz things in china cost way cheaper than US.
people can eat a meal for around 10 Chinese money which = less than 2 USD.
how much can u for 2 USD in US.
Some fries. For double that you could have a medium meal at McDonald's and for quadruple a nice meal in a restaurant.

$8 bucks and a nice meal in a restaurant? also please dont say "living in us is expensive". the car that costs you $90k here is approx. $230k for turkish people. and for the $140 difference, you can buy a house. might not be spacious but a house is a house.

Apple has not invented anything new since the ipad and even then, the ipad is an EXACT copy of an itouch/iphone in a larger size. I can't even notice the changes in iphones from generation to generation other than aesthetics. iOS is garbage.. I mean it's a great OS but boring/too simple. All phone manufactures are getting screwed by apple by suing them for the stupidest patents that shouldn't have been issued in the first place

The way I see it, Apple can't bring anything exciting to the table and they're pissed off like little kids. They screw all the other companies over and, therefore, all the consumers are suffering just because the manufactures are giving us what we want.

Apple = immature. The End. Period.

You can't be serious.

3930k is close: the first Vaio-brand laptops (which they called notebooks) came in 2001 and were made until 2003 when the bad rap (specifically heat and QC problems with their custom boards) finally caught up with commercial sales. Dimensionally, the original Air was only .1" or .2" thinner, just over a half inch longer, and about a half inch shorter in width than the most popular Vaio (2003 model). They remain similar dimensionally even now. Sony dropped out of the Vaio laptop game until 2007 and have kept at it since.

My point was and is that some devices, like laptops, were already progressing in the direction of thinner and sleeker. The problem was from 2000 to 2007 the tech just wasn't there to justify them as good purchases. Apple made good decisions in customizing their board, underclocking the processors, and using a much lighter weight OS that made for a better product than was released before, but it would be absolutely silly to say that Apple drove the laptop/notebook market anywhere; they were just the first ones to market them successfully, since they waited until the tech could support it. It should be noted that since rereleasing the Vaio laptops in 2007/8 most of the original problems had disappeared, but they still carried the connotation of being bad products and they've lost relevance in the face of Apple's success.

All I'm saying is market success is not the same as market drive or innovation. smile.gif

i wish apple would just play along, if their design is better then they should prove it with sales. if an iphone sells more then a samsung whatever then it's a better product.

you don't have to ban the competition to sell more products, you just have to make a better product.

That was a while ago though. ShadowGun on iOS has been updated to support the Retina display since, and I've noticed several effects that are seen in the Tegra 3 version but weren't seen before in the iOS version such as water, flags (with full movement), explosions, etc., and it's running at 2048x1536. The Prime is running at 1280x800. The Infinity which runs at 1920x1200 wouldn't handle it very well.

Not sure if rag doll stuff is done but I think it might be but take that with a grain of salt.

How is it true on Android? When you're looking at an app there's nothing to tell you that the app has been specifically designed for a tablet, or if it's just a smartphone app.

What I don't like about Android is the same as Windows -- I find it to be a bit messy and unpolished (no offence intended). I like iOS a lot, it's clean and tidy, and polished. The UI is smooth, and straight forward. By all means iOS isn't perfect, but it will improve -- just as Android will, but I just like iOS better. It's not the easiest thing to explain without showing someone side by side.

A key area on Android I don't like though is about apps. I don't like that I'm not aware if an app I'm downloading (or buying) is tablet specific or just a smartphone app -- this is obviously exclusive to buying apps on a tablet. I don't like that when I install an app, it's granted all the permissions it listed, whereas in iOS apps start with nothing and have to ask your permission in-app individually, and I can go to the Settings app and change it all later. And I really don't like that they can have malware. I'm somewhat of a paranoid person, and it puts my mind at ease that nothing I can buy on the App Store can have serious malware. And I'm not likely to download a "social engineering" malware sort of app.

Very well written post. I agree with you.

I still think they lead the market, but in the sense that Apple is a "cult hit". Everyone is looking to see what they're doing, and when Apple starts doing something then the competition will follow. High pixel density displays on smartphones became more popular after the iPhone 4, and that's happening with tablets too as of the iPad 3, and hopefully soon the same thing will happen with computer displays as well. I'm not saying the market wouldn't have ended up there anyway, I'm just saying it's probably been sped up. Apple is popularising things due to their products and marketing.

I saw a similar thing with the iMac. A few years ago HP and Dell didn't have really have anything that was quite similar (i.e, most were touch or weak), but now they all have ~23 inch models with similar designs and the same sort of spec options. (Though often greatly lacking in the GPU department.)

No. the iPad did not kick it off. how people are so blinded by the present to remember the past. HA.

Yes it did. Thank goodness some people actually get this like IcedEarth.

Before the iPad there was barely any demand for tablets, after the iPad suddenly the demand skyrockets. Hmmm... think we can put two and two together here.

No no, I meant the Tegra 3 version has more effects than the non-Tegra 3 version. The iOS app is the same as the Tegra 3 version afaik.
Ah I see.
Have you ever looked at the universal apps? There's heaps of them. And why shouldn't developers be able to charge for a iPad specific app? They could redo the UI entirely or they may have had to spend hours or more creating higher resolution graphics.
But you still end up with a smartphone app. With an iPad app you know it's been made to work with the iPad, and in some cases the iPad specific version has a completely different UI than the iPhone. Something more suitable for a tablet.
Haha thanks.
I'd say iOS blows Android out of the water. All that iOS lacks is the customisation, and personally I'm not interested in any of that at all.
Not quite. You get a workspace of 1440x900 by default, it's just much sharper. You can change that to 1680x1050 or 1920x1200 and it's still very sharp because it's being rendered at twice that resolution and downscaled to fit the 2880x1800 panel.
The MacBook Air was released in January 2009. When was the Sony Viao released? And was it the same sort of dimensions? I never said Apple was the first, but they do have a lot of impact. If they do something then others follow to compete.

Not only customisation but freedom. iOS is old hat. Android is now the market leader, big time, and with good reason!
