EDIT: 1280x720 doesn't seem like it would be enough for 13". 1600x900 or 1920x1080 would be better.

Windows 7 scaling never really works properly, maybe Windows 8 changes that but I'm doubtful.

Wouldn't 2560x1440 be a waste on a 13" Screen?

That's why it would have to be scaled down.

All exciting as this news is, I would be hapier for that resolution to become the norm in standalone screen, not 13 inch ultrabook ones....

I wouldn't. At least not as long as manufacturers continue charging $700 for them. Some of us like our $120 1080p monitors tongue.gif

The resolution is still 1440p, its just being scaled to occupy the same area as a 720p image.

The scaling, while not 100% accurate, works very well and is easily usable under Windows. Third parties can easily circumvention Window's scaling algorithm for better results but they don't since stock scaling is "good enough."

Windows 7 @ 2880x1800:

Anandtech seems to agree that Windows very usable on the Retina display.

Of course. I was saying that I'd like it to be scaled to occupy the same space as a 1600x900 or 1920x1080 image. 1280x720 isn't enough work space.
